This is certainly off topic, I can't even believe I am responding to this post. But being a newly wed I can let you in on a secret. Large jewlery stores like Zales, etc have a collection of returned/failed layaways/broken relationship gems, so called 'used jewlery'. I got a $5,500 diamond ring, with a huge oval diamond, gold band for $1,500. The wedding band with gold and diamonds also valued at $3k, I get for $998.

Get the appraisal paperwork with any valuable stones.
