well, being a senior in a public highschool, i would say that there could definatly be improvments. its not terrible, but the way things are done need to be changed. i know this sounds a little immature, but i am almost 18 and they honestly treat us like we are 8 year olds. in fact, when i was 8 i was more trust than now at age 17+. there is also a large lack of money in my school system due to stupid politicians. but poo happens i guess.

My son is in the Torrance CA school system. From what I understand the bathrooms are deplorible. I guarntee the teachers would never accept those conditions. He is in a school in an upscale neighborhood. I can't imagine what the ones in Los Angeles proper are like. It also appears that the school is run by liberal control freaks. But other than that .....
I'm very unhappy about his school situation.

If I remembered right, at least when I was going to high school, either the school board or the school itself gets an average of $3,000 to $5,000 per student per year.

For a class of 30, that's $90,000 to $150,000 per class per year. My high school had 2000 students. That's $6,000,000 to $10,000,000 per year.

If the numbers above are true, then I found the state of my high school rediculous (sp?). Teachers were under-paid, and over-worked. Buildings were in need of repair. Hell, the airconditioning system broke down every year. Bathrooms were rather deplorable. It seemed that they spent most of that money on the football and basketball team...

Of course, there may be more to the picture that I'm not seeing. Then again, that missing part may make me even more upset...

Hey pickel, I wouldn't say Jackson's is the worst. Greenwood's is even worse

I also question the 3 to 5 thousand number. It seemed like they did a bit of slight of hand the last time I checked with those numbers being closer to 7 to 10 in my old school system

Are you kidding? I live in DC.

Actually, a couple of the elementary schools are pretty good, and one of the high schools is not utterly beneath contempt. But that's about it.

I went to Elementary and Jr High in DC and they were terrific schools (Lafayette and Alice Deal), but that's 40 years ago.
