Here's a fun one you can use on JoeISetTheSpeedLimitAndWontGoFaster, if at all possible get by him safely. Once in front and in the left lane with him, slowly let him catch up and get as close as possible. Once close enough look back and smile then let your foot off the gas and turn your lights on. It's a joy to watch the expression of terror when they think you slammed on the brakes.

haha, that's pretty funny mykex. for me this was actually a tought question. it all depends on where i am. back home (in the dallas/fort worth metroplex), the other non-right lanes have to be used for traffic otherwise you would develop a stop and go traffic jam very quickly. so in that case the left lane is (IMO legitimately) used for overflow traffic. it really does speed up traffic in those cases (we go 50mph instead of 20mph). that's just city driving for me. on the other hand out here (in the middle of west texas) things are very different. out here i am in agreement with the rest of you.

My father did something for tailgaiters once. He hooked up several headlights in the trunk. When your bumber would disapear from view in the mirror it was time to pull the trunk release with new springs assist. Up popped the trunk and on turned on several headlights. It worked great except for the small fire it caused in his wiring. I will bet that fellar dont tailgate any longer.

For Goodbytes and other's info. I drive a truck for a living (17 years with over 2,000,000 miles) no accidents and couple of tickets. Most "company" trucks are governed way slow. Some are 55,58 60 65,68 etc. My company has 65mph wide open throttle. I don't like to jump out and pass someone and hold up traffic but we do need to get around the blue haired lady in front that doesn't know what cruise control is or steady pedal pressure. 99% of the time I am wide open of course and I run up on them like they are doing 50 so I go to pass and then they see me and WAKE UP and decide to pick up speed to 64 1/2mph and it take's me 1 mile to pass now. I think a lot of people think most trucks will do 100 mph. (I used to have a couple that would but not anymore) If we could pass in 2 seconds, believe me we would and get back over where it's safe. Another bit of info. If you are merging onto interstate and I get over for you to be nice, please speed up or slow down so I can get back into the right lane as I am at full speed. Don't stay beside my trailer for 5 miles wondering why I'm not speeding up. I also see a lot of rookie drivers everyday and I can't believe they are driving a truck when it's apparent they cannot, so I know what you're talking about. The trucking industry is getting cutthroat and now their going to let mexican trucks drive all over the US now. They'll work for almost free and their equipment should be in the junkyard.
slight rant I suppose.

swamp the friendly driver

The left lane is PASSING lane.

Swamp-fox, my Dad drives a truck for a living as well and I know what it's like for truckers who have to pass under those circumstances. Nothing frustrates my dad more than having to pass drivers who decide to speed up once they hit the passing lane.
Either that or the asses in the little civics and preludes who want to play russian roulette in their little pop can.

I give trucks a break. The only thing that drives me nuts about trucks is with the 55,000 lb bulk they often will try to bully a car trapped by the car in front. They will keep doing so until they make some progress. By bully I mean drive up with in 15 to 5 feet of the car they want to move.

When they do that to me I immediatly become a law abbiding citizen and decel to the speed limit or even a bit below.

I reported a truck last year for this as I watched a little old women get the crap scared out of her. The hows my driving number was rediculous. I gave her the time and the tag number off the box. She kept asking me for more info off the cab. It drove me nutz. I mean should they not be able to cross reference a time and place coupled with the unique number of the box???

I have my doubts as to whether she did anything about it.

I spent 6 years in Germany where there is NO speed limit on the highways (autobahns). It is not at all unusual to see cars travelling in excess of 100mph. I owned a BMW 633CSi that would top out at around 165mph. I regularly drove at 130 or so and would get peeved if I had to slow down to 100. The only way that kind of speed is possible is to enforce very strict lane usage. You DO NOT pass on the right in Germany under any circumstances. You DO NOT travel in the left lane. That lane is for passing only. The only exception there is if you're barrelling along at 200 in your Lamborgini. Then you're in a state of perpetual passing anyway.
