I'm right there with you,
Ep, when it comes to rude people. The problem is that there seems to be an ever increasing number of them. Rudeness is becoming the norm. "Me first" is the way of the world now.
I've worked at colleges for the last 5 years, both here and in Massachusetts, and I see an incredible lack of consideration and common sense manners from many students. It is very common for students to simple walk out in front of you while you're driving by or stroll casually across a crosswalk while chatting on a cell phone. In Massachusetts it was horrible. There were so many crosswalks that were constantly filled with students that it took 20 minutes just to get the 200 yards from the edge of campus to the parking lot. And the campus police there were dolts who would sit and watch traffic backing up at these crosswalks until some driver lost his patience and tried to inch across. Then they'd flip on the lights and siren and pull that driver over and issue a $100 ticket.
When I was on the night shift we'd have dinner at one of the local restaurants or pubs. I was appalled at the language the kids, and especially the girls, would use. I spent a decade in the Army and I don't remember even the soldiers using such sorry language. And these are the adults of the very near future. I can only assume that rudeness is spreading and will be the norm very soon.
Since I'm on a roll, let me rant on just one more thing. I firmly believe that every person has a fundamental right to peace and quiet in his/her own home. Sure there are things like lawnmowers and such that may temporarily disturb that peace, but on the whole you should be able to sit at night and read a book in peace. Unfortunately, that too is becoming a thing of the past. The advent of booming sub-woofers in cars and home stereoes, especially in PC systems, has made quiet a thing of the past. I saw an advertisement once for a sub-woofer/amp setup that claimed if you weren't disturbing folks a mile away while you were listening to your music, your system sucked. There's another TV commercial that shows a guy driving down the street shattering glass with his stereo. It's this attitude that it's cool to disturb others that burns me up.
I'm through ranting now.
