Wee! My First Networked Computer

Hey guys,

I'm writing this on my first networked computer!

Dell Optiplex G1
350 MHZ Pentium II
32 Megabyte ATI Pro Video Capture Card
64 Megs Of Ram
3Com Nic Card

Hooked up to a linksys 4 port router!!!

Now, I need to replace this monitor. Using a monitor for a 486 isn't so good on this 32 megabyte video card!

Well, How about everyone shares their first computer experiences? How about the time you first got onto the internet?

Dane

Both Use The Command Line Version Of Seti@Home, And Complete A Unit In About 16-17 Hours.

Good for you man! You are on your way!

My experience with my first comp (Compaq Pesario 486/66DX and it's predecessor, the AST):

Day 1: Got AST, learned how to plug in
Day 2: Learned how to install stuff
Day 4: Returned due to bad memory, also learned Ctrl+Alt+Del (Ironic, eh?)
Day4 (cont): Got Compaq
Day 5: Learned some of Control Panel
Day 30: Learned DOS

The first time I was on the net nobody was there...
There was no Netscape. You used a gopher. I never found much I was searching for, just usually University sites with files on them.

Ah, the days of BB's!! Before the net, that is!

Dial up and "speak" to the same ppl all the time...

Very different nowadays when you get propositioned by total strangers in IM!

Got my whole house, inlcuding the shed, networked now. Every networked PC has cable net access through my linux router/firewall. A far cry from hogging the phone line with a 14.4k modem.

Cheers
Mick

First used internet in 1997. Subscribed to a bulletin board service for news, downloads,..... on my 486 PC with all of 16MB RAM, windows 95, 28.8K dial up.

Signed up for hotmail and nothing much else.

Huge advances in last 6 years.

First time I went on the net was on roommates' Hewlitt Packard back in 1992 on a dial up modem. BORING !!! LOL !! All he ever looked at was stock pricing, and I didn't have a clue where to look or at what! Heck I didn't even know how to turn the darn thing on or off.
But just this weekend I built a knew machine and loaded XP for the first time. I did real good building and booting the machine, but I called a friend to help me partition the hard drive right. But I'm still learning! What the heck.
