Absolutism vs Relativism

A nice piece on the subject by Simon Blackburn.

We are all absolutists.

"Relativists" are simply absolutists who believe absolutely something else to be at the root cause of problems.

Thanks for the read Theo...

It's eventually easy to decipher which side he presents his arguments for... It is well written and appears sound in its a priorism position, but an Absolutist's Foundation is based on a presumption- and a significant and dangerous one at that. Some also argue it is arrogant.

More good arguments similar to A vs R, is Objectivity vs Subjectivity (for those who care).

Often, when reading the "Debates" around here on Religion, Politics or whatnot, I find myself categorizing the repeat vocal members into the above groups. There is, in my observations, a majority of Absolutists. Its fun to observe.

I see where Epidemic is coming from but I disagree. There are relativists who really believe there is no such thing as an absolute, that there really might be such thing as a square circle or an equation where 2+2=5. Of course, they're wrong, but they're out there.

But are they ABSOLUTELY wrong, or just RELATIVELY wrong???
