Car Audio Component Speakers
I've been out of the game on car stereo for awhile so I need input.I know the best way is to listen to them all first, then decide, but the shops around here dont have these up on the panel.
Which ones would you suggest out of :
Infinty Reference 605cs - $150 , $250 Installed
Infinity Kappa 60.3 - $200 , $300 Installed
JLaudio VR650cs - $200 , $240 Installed
JLaudio XR650cs - $300 , $340 Installed
Going to amp them eventually with 30w per side. I have the amp already.
So basically it's Infinty Refs vs. JL VR650, and the Kappas vs. the JL XR650
Is there a $100 difference in sound that I will even notice?
The place with the Infinity charges twice as much for install. And I would feel like a *&^% if I bought the Infinity from the other store and brought them to the cheaper place for install cause the guy was really cool.
I would install them myself, but the car is only 4 months old, and i would rather someone tear the door the apart that has done it before and would pay if something broke.
did you even get this far?

I highly recommend www.caraudioforum.com
There, you will get a large pool of hardcore car audio freaks.
I voted for Infinity simply because I think JL is crap (IMO) and Infinity is better

JL Audio makes fine speakers, wart. They are no worse than Infinity speakers. Now JBL makes some of the worst speakers there are IMO. I would go with the Infinity’s if you have to choose between only the two.
My preference is Boston Acoustics and/or Stillwater Designs (Kicker). I really don't care for Infinity speakers; I don’t like the way they sound. Polk Audio also makes some fine speakers and are worthy of consideration. Everyone has a different taste and the speakers you choose need to sound good to you. After all, you are the one who has to listen to them all the time.
If that is the same site you linked to before wart I never got any reply from them with a question I had.
There is a thread over at sysopt with a bunch of good car audio links.

Well, that's where I go everytime I have a car audio question, no matter how stupid or specific it is.

LOL ...I guess they just don't like me then or it must have been to hard of a question. Yeah I think the question was just too hard for them to answer. They do seem to have some knowledable people over there though. They deleted my post and registration too.
Is that where you got your opinion on JL speakers? What makes you think they are crap?

My opinion actually isn't a good one
It's more based on the subwoofers which - for me - don't cut it. Even with those, it's a matter of opinion. I like well-produced, sharp bass along with output. Many subwoofer companies only have output subs because that's what the average young guy can best use to draw attention to himself and piss everyone off.
To tell you the truth, I'm going with Boston Acoustic speakers myself because I love their home audio and know they are great.
Anyhew, my post was more of a joke than an actual opinion. Having never even heard JL or Infinity speakers, I cannot trully comment . Audio can be very difficult subject to judge. Stock car speakers can sound awesome to some of my friends because they cannot tell the difference between those and the $150 pair of Boston speakers.
Wolf - one thing I forgot to ask. Why can't you buy the stuff from the same place (whoever has the cheapest installation charge). $100 for installation is friggin' insane. It's $30 here.

I agree, speaker installation is EASY!!!! Even in my civic it was easy. I even rewired the rear 6x9's. DO NOT PAY FOR SPEAKER INSTALL's!!! (maybe if they rewire the front 6'1/2s which required drilling and much work so I just gave up....
Hey, my speakers cost me $30 for the rear and $20 for the front.
They sound real good too. Not as good as the pioneer's I just had (The highs were not as clear, probably due to the 3-way on the pioneer) But I actually prefer the cheaper ones. They are not pretty no fancy colors or styles, just good sound. Made by a company called audio research. Combined with my Alpine CDA-7875 they sound dam good. I can't hear anybody for a week if I fire up my dual MTX 10"s.. I like my system, and it didn't cost a fortune (aside from the deck) The deck drives any speakers nice.
$50 for speaks, $150 for the sub and box, $150 for the amp, $70 for wiring, $350 for the deck.
Total: $770 (plus dam taxes) Not too shabby and it sounds great. I love my deck!!

I agree wart but the JL's are loud and the SQ is not bad if they are in a good box and not overpowered. They are great for bandpass boxes. I don't care for any sub larger than a 10" because they tend to miss beats. Currently I like the new SD L7 solo-baric subs. Those things rock from what I have seen. There are a lot of good subs on the market, CV, Polk, SD, Juggernaut, BA, JL, Pioneer, MTX, fosgate, Orion, Lanzar, ALpine, Eclipse, focal, PP, heck there are just too many to list. A lot depends on how the system is configured as a whole IMO. I'm not into it like I used to be but I still do quite a bit of reading when I can.
BA is a great choice, I used to have some of their 6.5" pro separates until the car was stolen. They are expensive but well worth it if you really want the best. They are the only company I have never heard anyone rag.
$100 is fair for installation of separates depending on where they are installed and if a custom kick/door panel has to be made. They also have separate crossovers that need to be installed/mounted so it is not a simple R&R that everyone can do. Quote: |

| LMAO Your not even close! With a whole 12 watts coming from the built in amp they aren’t powering much. Don't let the 50watt decks fool you because it is not possible. | |
