Sorry it has taken me so long to reply…
I like Infinity’s sounds better than JL’s.
The install price could be different due to HOW they are going to install them and WHERE they are going to install them. Fair price for an install depends on how you want it installed. Good rule of thumb is to try and keep the tweeter within 8” of the midrange. By a good install, I mean that the speaker should be secured correctly and the wires be soldered on. If a speaker has 4 mounting holes, then use all 4. Little things like that. Dynamat works great for dampening the sound of the metal to which the speaker is installed on. Make sure the door panel is as solid as possible and that the speaker cone has plenty of room to move back and forth. I think you need to go with the speakers that sound the best and let the shop know that you choose them for their great install work and reputation for doing a great job.
Crazyray: I am not for sure I understand what you mean… You state that you are tired of this common lie and then you call yourself “Another satisfied Quart owner”… But I do respect your opinion... All too often, we let our peers decide what we think is the best. It has to do with FAD’s… See, I think that JL’s are terrible components, BUT that is MY OPINION. The reason I like the MB’s is to me they have a certain warmth and NON-HARSHNESS to them. My ears are different then your’s crazyray. That’s all…

Having heard some of the JL VR components first hand.. (as well as infinity and others)
I'd have to say while JL makes some decent subs.. i do not like their component sets very much..
The sound quality just wasn't there..
I would go for the Infinity component set..

When I said the JL’s have decent SQ I was speaking of the subs. I have only seen their separates install in one car and I did not like them.
MB Quart does make some very fine speakers. Edwelly, how do you think they compare to the pro series BA’s?

| Man, that is a good question. The pro series Boston Acoutics are GREAT sounding but then again, B.A. makes everything really well. I think it is a matter of taste. It's like comparing a Lexus IS 300 to a BMW M series... You are gonna love either one. The only thing I can say is that the depth of the MB's are slimmer than the pro BA's, so you might have an easier time istalling the MB's.
One of the most important things about MB's or BA's, no matter what series of these speakers you buy, (low end or high end) they are good speakers. They will sound good, at least to my ears!
Hope this helps...

| Sorry Ed, I've confused you. I love my MBQ's. I agree with your opinion of their sound. But IF I had based my choice on what I had read on the web, I'd believe the tweeters were "harsh". I see it all of the time, especially on a variety of car audio forums.
To my ears, they sound more like live music. And that's a very good thing. I assume the "harshness" others hear is a result of these speakers' ruthless reproduction of what is given to them. Feed them a bad signal and they'll let you know it...
Sorry about any confusion I've caused... |

rant
WHY????
How often are you listening to your music with your car shut off????
If you are in competitions okay, but if not, WHY???
Why spend so much money that is just going to get mixed with road noise, wind, engine etc. What's the point???? SPend the money of a home theatre or something!!!! If you can't tell the difference while driving along then why would you spend 100's more???

I picked up the JL XRs for 3 bills OTD.
They sounded great to me. I didnt really like the Kappas...didnt impress me at all.
Not being able to hear the VRs first hand I couldnt get them and keep thinking "Man, I shouldve just spent the extra dough and got the better ones"
Thats just me, and people tell me I think too much, so I just said "screw it", and got the better series.
Thanks for the opinions btw
Oh yeah, My home theatre is already all set for a couple years.
