Online anonymity , is it really a good thing[Please read]]

Due to the recent and tragic death of Brandon “ripper” Vedas I’ve had mixed feelings about
The privacy and anonymity of the online community , Maybe this isn’t good for us afterall.

I have Many online friends that I consider true friends, some even more then my “real” friends , I’ve had the privilege to meet a few of you in person , and I would be utterly devastated if one of you would get hurt whilst I stood powerless to help.

This has made me think , wouldn’t it be a good thing to make a list of phonenumbers and maybe even addresses for all of us that could be used in case of a “online emergency”
The list would be in the hands of someone trustworthy , say a Admin or Moderator
And only be used in case of emergency.

Imagine the horror his IRC buddies must’ve felt when they called 911 only to hear that nothing could be done , they where watching a friend die but where powerless to help.

This has really made me think.

Well for one thing I have no clue who brandon "ripper" vedas is.. guess he really is anonymous

Anyways, ya this same topic was brought up previously when AzKidd and I think one other disappeared. Even with someone trustworthy its difficult to give up that information for some.

Long read, to sum it up: Kid used lots of drugs, and people on the internet (his "friends") pretty much watched him die and couldn't do anything about it.

Ahh yes, sorry I forgot about that.

This has been brought up earlier last year. Most people don't even want to put up their photographs in the galleries. All they put is pictures of inanimate objects or desktops.

Personally, I think its a good idea.

All of his so-called friends egged him on to do it...
