Ruger 10/22 Full-Auto Conversion Laws in NC??

hey yall. i have a Ruger 10/22 and i bought a book on how to modify it to be a select-fire rifle(semi or fully aitomatic depending on selector position). but i am aware that you must get a license to do such a modification and own a full-auto gun. i also know some states dont allow them at all i think. does anyone know what the specific laws are for this in north carolina??

thanks!

drew

You cannot do it, PERIOD.

It must be done by a Class3 weapons dealer, after the conversion is done, you may apply with the BATF through your dealer for a Class3 weapons permit, the cost is $200

After that, the weapon may not be transferred to anyone except your heirs without the same deal again, a $200 conversion fee.

The BATF calls this a "Tax Stamp"

The price is the same for;

automatic weapons
silencers
hand grenades
rocket launchers
bazookas
tanks
jet fighters
nuclear submarines

j/k on the last 3

In Ma. you pay quite a large tax for this privilege.

But the funny thing is if you want to pay you can get a full auto providing you meet all the requirements.

I have heard that if you want to take a full auto to the range that you have to notify the police in every city that you are going to pass thru that you are going to be transporting the gun to and from the range on such and such a time and date. I also think the local BATF has to be notified also.

If it is true or not I don't know, But I did hear it from a pretty reputable source. Of course laws will vary from state to state but I don't imagine they will vary by much.

Maybe someone here has had some experience with this.

The "Tax-Stamp" is a Federal Law, I'm not sure of the State's ability to pass legislation in excess, maybe..

You can get those external inertial systems for the trigger. I have seen them in action and they are perty cool.

22 is the right weapon to do it with because it costs tooo much to shoot a 308 full auto. Besides it hurts!!!

The 10/22 is not designed to full auto I wonder what the lack of cooling does to your poor barrel. The barrel will be cherry red after 50 rounds.

The half-azz way to do it is with a "Hell-Fire" trigger.

You have to hold your hand away from the weapon, recoil causes the mechanism to operate, legal, they "say"

I want full auto and a silencer not for criminal activities but because they are cooler than ship.

The price will keep me from ever attempting to acquire one though.

Here I think you could be jailed JUST for posessing the book---
