Asylum for Saddam

Last nite I heard Bush say on TV that he is willing to consider giving Saddam and his errrr.....advisors a safe haven type of asylum should they be interested.

Much cheaper option than war.

But will it solve the problems?

Depends, you would have to ask both the Americans and the Iraqis to list the 'problems'

Only then can one discuss solving them.

Depends on the beef of the person who replaces him. I think no matter what nation building should be performed and monitored by the world.

If it took Saddam 20 years to create the mess they're in now, nobody is going to fix it anytime soon. In fact, the havoc Saddam has wrought in the entire middle east may take decades to erase.

By the way, the exile idea came from the middle east, not us.

this is how i understand it... let me know if you've heard differently:

President Bush will "accept" (not provide a haven) Saddam's exile from Iraq should he be willing, and thus war could be averted in that instance. This again is not exactly new - I'd be interested to hear if the President was offering a safe haven.

I'm only curious because there are many reasons for Saddam not to seek assylum in another country - first, he wishes to remain in power. Second, exile from Iraq would almost surely mean a death sentence, considering the number of enemies that he's made in his rise to power and struggle to keep it. It certainly wouldn't be a carribean getaway.

Thoughts?

Cypher:

There are a number of us folks in the military on the boards here. I personally will assist Saddam in getting to Allah. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to help him. And his friends, too.

And you'll get paid to do it. Not bad!
