The anti-toy-gun bill (Intro 298) is sponsored by city council members David Weprin (D-Queens) and Albert Vann (D-Brooklyn). It would make it illegal to sell or possess any toy gun that is not brightly colored or otherwise obviously not an actual firearm.
I'm sure this is nothing new to most people. The reason most Airsoft guns have a barrel with an orange tip is so it won't be mistaken for an actual firearm. While this law probably makes even these Airsofts illegal, I don't see how this law takes away kids' (brightly colored) Super Soakers. Obviously these "concerned parents" have never seen one themselves.

Here in the Netherlands replicas of weapons or toys that closely resemble weapons are treated as actual weapons. I believe you can actually get charged with possesion of an illegal firearm if you get caught with one these "toys". The only way you might be allowed to own a Airsoft, for instance, would be if you had a license to own firearms. Not sure about that, though.
