Thats Twice... that I observed
I have noticed twice that persons who are/were Moderators removed their posts. Once about a month or so back and now this evening. Nothing was inappropriate or wrong with either post (maybe off topic, but certainly nothing wrong), so why the removal/relocation? And, I dont think it ok.
I was told by one that they simply "changed" their minds and felt their post irrelevent and they closed with a *shrug* (apparently meaning no big deal)... so they removed it. I venture to guess the second removal was for the same reasons tonight. I pm'd the last person and followed up with my Opinion to the other Mods about the action. Apparently nothing was "discussed" or they felt it didnt matter.
I think it does matter. I have read other members question why we cant delete our own posts and read the Mods' responses. It seems hypocritical to me that they should do it themselves- especially when its concerns "personal" posts in the community that refer to their opinion.
I would like the ability to do that myself- remove things I didnt mean to say. I included some reasons with my PM to the Mods as to why I thought it inappropriate that they can and have done it that dont need to be repeated... since my last PM was ineffective, I decided to post this time in the Community about this.
I was reminded recently about Member Forum Rules and expectations... and justly so. But- Doesnt this go both ways?
WAIT: before I possibly get critisism- I have and continue to recognize the Needed, Valuable and Emtremly Appreciated roles the Moderators have at TIMO. I dont want to give the wrong impression, but do want those who Moderate to be held to the same standards as those who are Moderated.

Well, (and merely IMHO,) the Mods give up something (a lot of time, as well as the freedom to get "wide" and wild) in order to be Mods....so it's fair, I think, for them to have a little something extra on the other side. |

Well IMO I think getting the ability to close/delete threads for ANY and EVERY user is good.
Although I still wish I could delete my own threads, or something of that form...
Sometimes I post something and realize what I said/asked is silly, and their are no mods around.

It's kinda like cops being able to speed. It's a perk of the job. Let'em have something.
Considering the big fat paychecks I'm sure they don't get, let'em have some kickbacks.
Personally I feel, (and I've had my share of disagreements with the mods) that this is a NON-issue. I'm a little bewildered why it's such a big deal to you.

We can always edit our posts. I have seen what you are talking about, though.
Sometimes they're possibly deleted because somebody beat them to it... | |

We can all edit our own posts. No big deal; if we change our minds about something, edit it or remove it.
IMo, mods are chosen partly on their sensitivity to the forum. So if they choose to moderate their own words, it shows that they apply this to themselves as well. A good thing, IMO.
In no way do I see it as an abuse of power. It's when other ppl's posts get inappropriately modded that it would be an abuse. How can changing your mind seem to be an abuse of anything?
Cheers

We have had mods delete their own posts (or ?other mods delete them) when they have accidentally revealed some secret mod rite or info or somesuch... that can be very confusing, as members who read the post in question (and in my case on one memorable occasion, replied to it ) can become confused. So editing the content and saying it was edited is a better option, IMO. Less confusing: at least you don't think you are going crazy looking for something that's just plain disappeared...
Cheers
