Some gardening questions

What is "Coarse Salt" used for?

Featured in today's OSH ad:

50 lb Coarse Salt $2.99
High purity salt, low soluble matter content

EasyGone Total Vegetation Killer - heard of it?

I'm wondering if this is really as effective as today's OSH ad says it is:

1 gal (covers up to 800 sq ft). Kills weeds and prevents plant growth for up
to 1 year $12.99 (meaning it is more effective than RoundUp?) And how can a
liquid keep things from growing?

Salt can be used to control snails and slugs, but it actually hurts plants... puts too many ions in the water..

The plant killer might have anitgermination properties but that is pretty cheap for that... and yes a liquid can prevent plant growth for years if you get the right one... most are illegal without to use without a license.

That may be water softener salt?
Roundup is some pretty mean stuff but wont kill in the same area for a year---that Easygone must REALLY be mean, I think you can plant in a Roundup cleared area within a month or less...
