Who's your long-distance phone company?

I think from what I know (or knew), there are only very few LD phone companies out there:

Sprint, MCI, and AT&T (any others?).

Which one do you go with and why?

Alltel, who is also my local carrier. I was an AT&T customer for years. Lately AT&T started throwing in an extra charge for this and an extra charge for that and the next thing I know my phone bill was $60 for one phone and no long distance charges.

Bell here too. I don't make enough long distance calls to make it worthy to have a separate company for these.

I used Lifeline for a while, but since people were always calling long distance, and I was paying $200-300 phone bills, I buy those prepaid LD cards for $20. Less convienient, but way cheaper in my case

Vartec Telecom - a company out of Texas. They usually advertise in the Reader's Digest. We've got their full service which is the first 200 minutes of long distance free, caller ID etc - all of the bells and whistles - for something like $40 a month. After 200 minutes its a nickle a minute anywhere, anytime. We do lots of long distance calls and my bill has been about half of what I was paying with Southwestern Bell. We haven't had any occasion to use their customer service so I can't comment on that but from a cost and reliability standpoint they're worth looking into.

AT&T. But it turns out we also make a fair number of long-distance calls on our Verizon Wireless cell phones, because we have lots of minutes we would never use otherwise.

believe we have MCI (roommate manages the bills, he just puts up the final tally), but since I got my new cell phone I get unlimited night and weekends and free long distance from sprint pcs so I just use that now
I'm a night person anyways so its not inconvenient for me at all.

There are actually quite a few small LD carriers, check google there may be some small companies that advertise there.. many times the smaller companies will go out of their way to bring people in unlike the big guys.
