Misc US and 12 allies on Iraq

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/...ell/index.html

Quote:
United States has the support of at least a dozen unnamed countries, "with or without" another U.N. resolution approving a military strike on Iraq.
And who might those 12 countries be? If he's counting on France, Russia, or Germany, he better count again.

Well, there's Britain, Australia, and the Czech Republic (they all have troops there); Kuwait and three other Gulf microstates; Turkey (which is allowing us to use our bases there). Spain and Italy more or less support us; the Dutch haven't said no. Poland can be counted on. I think that's it.

It only takes one. Then it is not unilateral action.

We might actually use the 32 troops and semi-working tank the other nations provide

I don't think we need the French anyway. Did you hear about their new tanks? They have 1 gear for forward and 6 gears for reverse...

Russia, France, and China do not back the resolutions against Iraq because Iraq owes them billions of dollars. I don't know what is up with Germany, but the other 3 have a serious hidden agenda in their reasoning for not backing us. ...and everyone says we are bad for doing this for the oil... (not that it is for oil)

German elections had something to do with it. I would think out of anyone they would want to remove the new Hitler.

Anyway, I think I read Powell said we will wait until Monday. I guess they didn't want their TV ratings hurt by the Super Bowl or something.

Well, lets see:

The UK is definately one of those allies.

The French are definately NOT one of those allies. I dont think it matters what we do, they'l hate us.

Despite what Saddam says, I'm sure that like Theo says, Kuwait is on our site.

Austraila, maybe. They can be anti-american at times, but I don't think they have lately. Maybe one of our australian friends can tell us how it looks down under?

Canada, probably. They are the top US ally. Lots of liberals, but not nearly as bad as France. I don't think it's mainly a left-right issue at heart though, since many democrats here agree to the war.

Add that to what Theo said. Turkey supports action, I know. It's conditional there however. I think it's we have to provide defenses even after the war.

Seeing how Kuwait treats our people over there, they are on our side. Kuwait loves the US.

I hope the Iraqi people will "love" us too when they see how good life can be without having to worry about all those midnight visits from the secret police. If we can keep from hurting as many people as possible.
