Brain Implants

http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/cover.html

Came across this article of how this one resercher is putting implants into a disabled person's brain that interfaces with a computer today.

It lets people who still have an active mind, but disabled body to speak and possibly move one day.

This is real!?! Right!?! That is an amazing leap forward! The integration of human and machine is going to be an amazing step in the human race! One I'm not sure we will ever be ready for, but the abilities of someone with integrated computers could be an amazing and extremely powerfull thing!

Interesting... Technology is an amazing thing, and will continue to force us to re-examine and re-define many things... as well as create new opportunities.

This also reminds me of Crichton's "Terminal Man."

That is sick!!! IMO people shouldn't be messing with God's given image of perfect man. We were born in his image of what he saw as perfect for each and everyone of us.

UGH!

This isnt sick to T.T. or any other person who could benefit from such advances in science/technology. Religion aside, think about the implications of such sciences (this application being one) and future developments. Considering Religion, Yea, such things will force some to reconcile with it while others will never accept it and call it an abomination. Yet, philosophically, whether we like it or not... eventually, we will have to redefine what it means to be human (no longer just biological beings) and intelligent (many egoists claim this unique to Humans).

For the most part, I like and encourage the direction that technology is taking us.

EDIT: Spelling mistake

Does it come with a "reset button"?
I'm envisioning a scenario akin to Bill Murray in "Ground Hog Day".
Are they available at NewEgg?

Mortis, It is sick IMO, its exactly why I am totally against cochlear implants. It requires a chip inside the head just behind the ear for it to work.
Ask any Deaf person if they would go for that, you will get a resounding flat NO!
Ask any late deafned person they will totally support it.

Anything that needs to be implanted inside the head im totally against expecial if it requires the use of a computer and/or other electronics.

NeoStarO1,
Check the battery in your pacemaker!
This might be overstressing your components.
