Bushfire destroys homes in Australian capital

A bushfire has destroyed more than 400 homes in Canberra, Australian's capital. At least 4 people have died. This is seen as the worse single bushfire destruction in our nation's history.

I have 2 colleagues in Canberra who both lost their homes, and have nothing except the clothes they where wearing.

And they are blaming the fire response services, but I personally doubt much could have been done with that kind of firestorm.

See more info here (if link is dead, goto http://www.abc.net.au/news/ ).

Mick

Sad to hear that

But they would have needed up to 800 fully staffed fire trucks to have saved all the houses
but the people complaining sure would have complained about the cost of keeping all those firefighters and equipment for the 100-200 years or so that they wouldn't have been needed!

Still very sad to see devastation like that

Mick, I saw the news of this last night and immediately thought of you, Rusty, and all our TIMO friends half a world away. It looked like a terrible situation. Good thoughts and hopes to ya, there's not much else I can do from here.

Sorry to see it going on again mate
There were some bad bush fires around Sydney this time last year, and me and the mrs. went on a tour of the blue Mountains around Katoomba and saw quite a bit of fire damage in that area.
It reminded me of when Yellowstone Nat. park here in the states caught fire in 1988. very sad...
What is also sad is that a lot of the fires last year were said to have been set by people

God bless the fireys!

Keep safe ozzie folks...
Hope for the people that are living close to it, and for the firefighters fighting against it.

Hope your friends will be ok Mick, give them our well wishes
