Any opinions on window brands?

I've been looking at windows for when we build. Information over load!
Anyone have any opinions as to brands or pitfalls?

We have Pella in our apt. - very old and already there when we moved in. But work perfect. Smooth. No stickiness. And the material-aluminum - looks still quite new.

Guess it all depends on budget but windows are subject to lot of wear and tear as well as extreme conditions. Also you can't change every 3 years---too much trouble.

Better to get the best. Not that much difference in prices also if you shop around and see if they are available in discount outlets.

Pella or Anderson either will give excellent perfermance.

2 panes of glass with a UV restrictant gas between them to act as an insulation, and to protect the inside of the house from UV rays. And as Shahani said smooth operation, and reliability.Lower heat/AC bills. In a new build, I would say a neccessity

Mom and Dad used anderson in the remodel, it was worth the money

Geez don't anybody watch Norm Abraham??

ten years ago i put in vinyl framed dbl-pane windows
from the window factory. i highly un-recommend vinyl
framed windows!
(or is the correct word dis-recommend?) because vinyl
cannnot hold them square, they sag and dont open and close properly.
another un-recommendation: casement windows are very heavy
and put too much strain on their hinges which fail. and vertical
sliders have a delicate mechanism. so i most recommend
horizontal sliders, bec their opening and closing is most
long lasting and uncomplicated.

Get nitrogen filled double pane windows.

Get the warranty in WRITING, Read IT, understand it !!

Get the type that you can remove from the inside.

Never allow anyone to paint within the sliding area of the window, it will NEVER Work Right Again.
Tape it off prior to painting.

Use high quality silicone spray on the sliding surfaces, never petroleum based, like WD-40
