Car Model Years

How early, prior to the year actually switching over, do vehicle manufacturers typically start releasing that model year's vehicle's to the public? Like, when we start seeing 2004 vehicles in the streets?

I'm looking to buy a new car later on this year, but am wondering if I should wait. I don't want to buy an '03 if I'm going to see '04 models on the streets a few weeks later..

x2

It depends on the make/model. Which cars do you think you'll be looking at?

History has shown September as typical release time for new model years, domestic vehicles anyway.

BC - nice link, bookmarked it!

Can't say about all makers, but Ford's liable to toss out a new model at just about any time and call it the following year model.

Cases in point: 1989 Probe was produced for two years, the first were built in 1987

1997 F150 was first available in early 1996.

02 T-bird was "early" also, can't remember exactly.

There were others, but those stand out in memory...

Subsequent years "changed over" traditionally.

Redesigned F150 in the works now, scheduled "mid year" intro as an 04 model.

I'll mainly be looking at a Hyundai Tiburon... The '2003 model has been out for a long time..

Ed, that is just standard practice for ford. Then when the actual new yearmodel comes, they have redesigned somethings, and then 5 years later when you need to interchange something, even though it's the same car,and year, it still won't fit
Dodge is bad about that too.
Sure is a pain
