Why move to Nevada?
Can anyone tell me what is "state income taxes"?
I saw a new homes ad saying the benefit of moving to Nevada. They don't pay it. But I am also told that it can be quite cold there.
Benefits: legal brothers, gambling, ...?

Nevada has no state income tax, plus they run a few other interesting incorporation-type deals that can be quite beneficial if you earn over 50 K a year, as a self-employed person...
I almost went a couple of times. Thing is, don't try to stay in CA and declare residency in Nevada. They have whole slews of nasty people here in CA (gov't) who are quite aware of the whole deal, and can make your life extremely interesting, tax-law-wise... |

cold? I imagine at night being a desert it'd get chilly at night but doubt it would get flat out cold. There's enough pavement around to hold in some of the heat (at least around las vegas of course). Besides after being in blistering 100+ heat all day the cold would be a welcome relief!!
I'm not a heat person so I could never live in NV, plus I like actual "seasons" which CA people don't know about anyways hehe
Brothels aren't illegal either, so if thats your thing it's definately a place for ya (j/k!!)
no state income tax would be nice though.

People have a mistaken idea about "desert States"--first that deserts are inherantly hot.
Is the Gobi desert hot ?
The Arctic region is semi-desert, due to lo rainfall.
Rainfall are lack of it in decent numbers s what makes a desert.
When the sun goes down, the temp drops like a rock. Also, AZ, NM, and NA are at "mountain plateau' levels of about 3,000 ft. --to start. And rise from there.
The western part of the State is the home of Lake Tahoe. Snowfall--about 300 inches a year. There is a line on the pavement that separates CA from NA. The capotal is Carson City which is well kept and is also a half hour from Lake Tahoe.
There is a huge diurnal (day to night) temp gradient because there is nothing to hold the temp in--lo moiture of air and little cloud cover means heat just radiates back into space.
Ah ! State Income Taxes.
In NYC we pay THREE income taxes as NYC has its own.
Other States without income taxes are WA, TX, FL, WY (?),NH (?),Alaska used to have a negative income tax from Oil revenues, and a few others I forget.
BUT remember this: A State which doesn't use income taxes will try to get you on something else.
For example, the property taxes in TX are higher than in adjacent NM.
Only states which areable to keep taxes generally low are Navada due to "exporting" taxes to other States through Gaming. FL taxes tourism through hotel, sales, and stuff like a "tire highway use " tax on rental cars. Alaska also uses the oil revenues to keep a lid on taxation.
Another consideration is Retirement Income. Some States will give it a break--but most don't. NYS exempts the first $20,000 of a private pension and ALL of a Gov't pension. No breaks in CA.
So if you are thinking of moving to any State--ask first HOW they'll get you--not IF they will get it. Moreover, taxes ripple through an economy. High property taxes mean higher rents mean higher retail costs. etc.
And you might be surprised that Maine and Idaho are high tax States. When a population is dispersed--it is costly to deliver services. I saw schools for 80 kids in Maine.
Deserts have to do with rainfall--not on heat per se. Temp and oxygen concentration also drops with altitude. Santa Fe is only two mile higher than Alberqueque--but 'Que is five miles high to start.
Between the CA sierras and the Rockies, there very little to stop the Sask. and Alberta clippers.

So far, Washington doesn't have a state income tax, either, but they're talking about implementing one.

Huh ?
The Governor who tried to get one through about 15 yrs ago got voted out of office. Why do you think people skipped Oregon for Washinton from California. Idaho draws political dissidents from CA, but not hoards of people.
If you go to NaVada, check out Lake Powell-Lake Mead. Henderson was growing so fast, they didn't even bother to put up street signs.
