Direct Democracy is the only true democracy. All it means is everybody votes on everything.
No elected Congress or Senate to represent us. No state representatives, no governers, no mayors, no council members, etc. These figureheads would all no longer be needed. And all the decisions they all make for their little corners of our government would then have to voted on by the people of the nation.
Like I said, everybody votes on everything.
In theory it's got the upside of every single citizen would have an equal voice. Every vote would count. Corruption would be extremely difficult at best because there are not figureheads to be corrupted.
But in reality it's simply not feasible. There are literally not enough hours in each day for something like that to work. There are SO MANY issues at SO MANY levels to be dealt with/voted on/funded/overseen/reported on/studied/etc. etc. The citizens of the country wouldn't even have enough time to simply vote on everything that needs to be voted on. Then there's the whole aspect of them actually needing to study up on things so can at least understand what they are voting on.
Hell, nobody would have the time to go to work.
Even though with todays technology it probably is doable to wire up every household in the country so everyone could vote...but even if that were done, the system just isn't feasible with a country any larger than a typical neighborhood.
And I think it wouldn't take long before local leader-types starting organizing groups with common ideas and slowly but surely we'd end up back right where we are now.
