Kids Would you vote for a non-christian president?

Ok well as some of you know Joseph Lieberman announced his candidacy for presidency

IMO I really don't care if he's jewish, christian, catholic, muslim or wiccan... but I know some people do have very strong beliefs on this topic. From what I understand a lot of people threw a fit when Kennedy was elected as he was catholic.

So could you vote for a non-christian president?
If you're in another country, could YOU vote for a non-<insert majority religion> president/prime minister/etc? or for that matter an atheist/agnostic?

Oh and please do RESPECT others beliefs!! If there is ANY bashing going on I will ask this thread to be locked. Simply opinions and reasons. If you don't like him as a person that's fine, but regardless if you like it or not his religion will effect peoples votes.

I'd have no problem voting for a candidate I like irregardless of his/her religion. In fact, I'd prefer NOT to know their religion. It's not my business AFAIC.

But I could never vote Joe Lieberman. Have no respect for the man.

Personally I'd prefer a President that was agnostic. Not athiest, but agnostic. (And they're not the same although people tend to glue'em together with slashes as if they were.)

But a Wiccan would be pretty cool. I could see that....in about a million years.

Some of the past presidents have been Christian? -I thought they were just church-goers...

Yes, I would vote for Liberman ...just to terrify the terrorists

I could vote for a non-Muslim president and it did happen in my corner of the world before the armies decided they could rule the countries without democracy.

I would never vote for anyone who is not Muslim, Christian or Jewish since I would feel no connection to their beliefs and outlook on life.

An interesting subject.

lol

Well, as a Christain, I would prefer a Christian president, but if they held the same political beliefs that I hold (for the most part that is) I would probably vote for them.

Excluding Satanic, and or cultic type beliefs, but I could probably vote for somone who is Jewish, Muslim, etc. I don't know about WICCAN though.... a little to out there for me.

I have always voted for professed Christians in Presidential elections. I could probably vote for a non-Christian if he seemed like the best choice for the good of the country. But...........I would never vote for lieberman and it has nothing to do with his religion.

Edited for brain fart.

I would vote for my boss who is an Iranian muslim but he has values I can agree with. I would not vote for a christian neo nazi leader. In such an election I would definitely vote for Ali before A David Koresh.

Personally the religion of the person is not as important to me as how they apply their religious faith. I will vote for the ideology which most closely matches my own, then the lessor of two evils and finally I would vote by moving out of the country if the two evils were too great like many imigrants from the middle east have done around the world.

Ditto, except I'd use the term "regardless".

On the other hand, someone's religion is not irrelevant, since it may give you an insight into their world view.

That's exactly why I use irregardless...because I can. I know I shouldn't...but [shrug].
