Evolution Question

ok. first off, i beleive in evolution. if u do not, dont post here, i dont want an argument.

that outta the way, i got a question. supposedly, all life originated from unicellular organisms, right? well, what happened to bi-cellular organisms, tri cellular, etc.? it would seem, that to go from one cell to a trillion you would have to go consecutivly, somewhat anyway. are there bi and tri etc. celled organisms? were there ever? if not, how did they form groups to become multicellular?

drew

One day a unicellular organism got bored. He decided to divide and just never stopped. I don't think you'd have to run up the numbers consecutively. Once you've got an organism that's capable of cell division or undergoes cell division as part of gestation, whathaveyou, I seriously doubt that there's a ramp to climb.

I, personally, have never heard of an organism with two cells. It's either one cell, or lots of cells, AFAIK. I'm probably wrong though.

The step from Single celled organisms to multicelled organizims, was just that, 530 million years ago cellular division started, I'm pretty sure there were 2 celled orginisms, however those were the ones that died at that level. Cellular division to my knowledge is not something that can be stopped (barring killing the orginizm). Even right now cellular division is happening in you, if this stopped you would cease to be.

no1_vern's answer is quite correct, Single celled organizms Evolved into multicellular, multicellular orginizms are not capable of stopping cellular division without commiting suicide.

Here is a good read if you have a fair amount of time.

Still reading it myself.
