The simplest way to cook steak

What is the simplest way to cook steak if you don't have a lot of ingredients on hand, and you don't have a barbeque grill?

Is there a good web site out there with SIMPLE recipes (few ingredients to use)?

www.allrecipes.com is a good place to look for recipes.

No grill, so you'll be searing it I guess?

To be quite honest, steak au pauvre is a great way to go IMO. AN easy way to do that is pepper your steak (cracked works best, but whatever you've got will do) to taste, sear it on both sides over high heat, then lower to lo-med and cook to a few degrees below desired temp.

Then open up the liquor cabinet! Any whishky goes nicely with steak, cognac; heck you can experiment.

Raise stove temp back up and pour a small to moderate amount in the pan (careful it might catch fire! You can just blow it out). Let it cook down a minute or two, plate the steaks and pour some steak juice/whiskey over top.

another variation would be to add cream to the whiskey.

Hope I could help!

Broil it, if your stove has that option ( some just have storage space as broiling has become a lost art ).

I usually use Montreal Steak Seasoning and perhaps a little butter when I cook on the grill. IF you broil it, season salt, pepper, or even Mrs. Dash will work in a pinch.

I'm seeing the scenario now. Hungry. Don't want to cook ( ingredients and such ), and there is a lone steak in the fridge mooing to be eaten. Alas, it's 5 degrees outside. Forget the Grill. Gotta eat that steak....what to do?!

I have an indoor griddle and also the BBQ outside, I use Montreal Steak spice, pepper and Garlic plus, (garlic with some other spices ) However you can cook them in a frying pan, tho I don't like this method, to cook them faster you can use a lid on the fryingpan.

fry pan, heat till high,

toss meat on to sear, turn, sear

add some butter for glazing before plating

dis is for rare

for med-rare to med cook a bit longer or place in oven

glazing with butter before serving gives a nice gloss and a small flavor to the dish....

Fire!

Well, to be serious, I just pop it in the broiler with a good dose of: soy sauce, garlic, olive oil and a splash of hot pepper sauce...

Note -- Not to exceed 15 sec. per side for 1/2" thickness!!

Add 5 sec. per side for each additional 1/4 in.

That's the only way I like it from a pan!
