When did Korea start hating us so much?

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/asiapc...aty/index.html

things just get better and better, im not familar with our realshionships with Koreans. Can anyone explain why north does not like us? I understand they were supposed to stop the nuclear testing from some treaty but they did it secretly.

now my question what give god old US of A the right to say who does and doesn't have the rights to have nukes when we have a bunch? Is this another way America of bullying people around?

this is a serious topic so no flames please as im clueless to this situation. it seems all i hear is Us saying no you can't have it. no you can't have it. thanks!

Jason

Jason - your letter will be flamed ALOT.
BUT to answer this soberly, do you remember the Korean war,
with 35,000 american dead, maybe a million korean dead?

reason 2: north k is a government with aspects of the communist system which has failed in russia, and aspects of a inherited
monnarchy. as russia and china and south k move foward,
north k remains in the 1950s, lookinng out at a world which has left them behind. nukes = respect which they otherwise wouldnt get, and bribes (politely called "international aid") which they otherwise wouldnt get to stop making nukes.

so - given north k's history and present situation,, their behavior
is ratherr understandable and appropriate.

Korean war forgot about that. sorry its 9 am lol still trying to wake up

thanks for the info capy, i guess policitics are not my strong side. but it seems we are always sticking our noses into other business. why not let the Koreans be a communist and let them learn the hard way if it doesn't work.

why do we have to moderate how they run things?

The Korean war never really ended. There's just been a very long cease fire. We have thousands of troups in S. Korea. There are still minor skirmishes on the border in the DMZ (at least there were when I was in the Army in the 80's). I'm sure N. Korea looks at us as being the aggressor here and they are developing nukes for their protection. Especialy since they were called out by our current administration as being an "Axis of Evil". They probably figure we'll start picking on them after we destroy Iraq.

I think the N. Korean government chose a very interesting time to pull out of the treaty and reactivate their nuclear power stations.

Obviously it's their right to do both of these things, no one can tell them what decisions to take and I am sure they are well aware of the consequences.

Frankly I don't care if they pull out of the treaty, because this treaty has no teeth and it will break if the current global tensions reach a higher level.

Also, a treaty like this can only work if all nations get rid of nuclear weapons. As long as there is a 'super special club of privileged' countries one cannot seriously believe in such treaties.

Frankly it will be interesting to see how the global police man deals with the two situations (N. Korea & Iraq).

Who said all people are created equal?

Read George Orwell's Animal Farm.

Didn't you know that the US is the self-styled and self-appointed moral and legal guardian of the entire world?

Do you have any idea of the stockpile of WOMD, including landmines, nukes, chemicals, biological toxins that the US has? Probably enough to destroy the planet 22 times over. And they keep adding to it.

And telling the rest of the world (except England, of course) that they are not "mature" enough to have a stockpile of WOMD even 1% of what is here.

No wonder people around the world have stopped taking the US seriously anymore and stopped the blind support they had during the last century.

It's a classic case of the Pot calling the Kettle Black.

The difference being that the US did not sign a pledge not to develop nuclear weapons. The koreans and Iraqi's did.

I also feel that keeping nukes around may some day be the salvation of humanity if we do not blow our selves up first.

17 years until that little bit of space junk the size of manhattan will take another swat at us.

You are talking about an extinction class impact and that one is only one of the rocks we have spotted so far.

Some day nukes could save the world and they are perhaps the only power great enough to do so. So I vote that the US keeps the stockpile and no one else.

read it in 9th grade. great book. the ending was classic. I guess the thing that really bothers me is this. Im soon to be 20 years old. the idea of draft has been thrown around and Bush said that the draft will not happened. there is always the whatif concept. So just say the draft does come up, i will be right up there first in line with all my friends to fight the war of someone else. Am i prepared to die because someone wants a war cause they have something they should when we have alot and feel to stick our noses in every thing? HELL NO!!

We are still not taking the terrorist thing seriously enough.

One day very soon you all may be changing your tune.

Learning by mistake is very powerful. But it usually comes at some price. In this case it will be a city or state.

I vote for california. Any good californians move east before that day.

The movie (cartoon) is excellent too but the book was very popular when I was in High School (circa 1970) and was a required textbook for Literature in English, the other book being Macbeth by W. Shakespeare.

You are right, though. If the cause is just, it's worth fighting for. But if its part of a slick political agenda, then reconsideration of everything is in order.

But, don't worry. Draft will come up. Did you expect GBW to say anything unpopular like announcing the probability of a draft?

He and his coterie are too smart for that.

When this disastrous war starts and soldiers start getting killed by the thousands, the Administration will have no option but to introduce draft.

And all because the US is poking around everywhere. Except where they should be poking around.

Domestic issues like economy, unemployment, vigilance at borders.....
