Move your computer?

I was wondering if moving a computer around a lot is bad? Considering breakable cores, with huge, heavy heatsinks nowadays. When I think about it, the only thing that could get messed up during a car ride, would be the chip. I would think laying the computer on its side would put the heatsink in an up and down fashion, making it easier on the chip.

What about all you extreme gamers that go to LAN parties all the time? Do you any special transportation methods?

I've never had any problems throwing my box around. Since my junker Volcano 7 is a single tab clip, I might take that off if I were to go any long distances though. Wouldn't want a sudden stop to jar it and break something.

I've never had any problems at all. If the heatsink is properly seated, shouldn't it be safe because there is no space between it and the core? I think the mobo would take the biggest beating. Not sure tho. It never hurts to be careful.

I've learned that monitors should be transported with the Screen facing downwards.

In the days of steam computing, before hard drives had heads that parked automatically, moving the computer was a big deal. If it were still so, you couldn't have laptops, could you?

The big problem is having the heat sink and fan come off. Check after the move before you turn it on to avoid frying the CPU. That's what the famous Tom's Hardware Guide video was really about; ordinarily, complete loss of a heat sink doesn't happen, and your machine shuts down when the temperature hits the preset limit. But if the clip isn't on really solidly, the knocking about that the box gets on a major move might cause it to allow the heat sink to fall off entirely, and then -- ZAPPO!

Yeah, that's the problem. I want to ship it to someone that would have no idea how to do that..

surreal you could pack the whole inside with packing peanuts and tell the person to remove all the peanuts before turning on!
