Adopt a cool dog in the bay area

On Tuesday Jan 7th, I let my dog out in the front yard to go to the bathroom (as I do every night) and she ran right up to another dog that happened to be in my yard. The other dog rolled over on its back and didn't fight my dog, and she had a cut above her eye. I took her to the dog-ER and had her checked out and she is fine (may have been hit by a car, nobody knows). I let the local shelters know about her but so far no one has claimed her and she does not have a microchip ID tag.

She is a 2 year old 50 lb American Staffordshire Terrier or American Bulldog (or a mix). She is very friendly with people, comes when you call her, likes to play fetch, rides in the car very well, likes to be near people and always looks up at you to make sure she has your approval. Very loyal. Likes to sit in your lap if you're on the ground with her. She seems to know the command "sit". She is an incredibly strong dog and loves walks (actually, she walks you but she is not uncontrollable).

I want to keep her but unfortunately she doesn't get along with my dog. She is fantastic around people though. So far I have seen her act very friendly and socially towards 6 different people (furious tail wagger).

She needs to be spayed but that's only $20 through the Humane society and she comes complete with a harness/leash, an already performed Petco bath/flea-dip and $300 worth of chest x-rays and blood work plus a write-up from a vet (normal results). We've been calling her Molly but only for two days so you can likely give her a new name.

She really is a sweet/friendly/cool dog and needs a good home. If you're in the bay area (I'm in the Napa/Vallejo area) and could offer this dog a good home (preferably without other pets), and would integrate her into your family life, play with her and do daily walks (and not just stick her out in the back yard), please let me know. She probably needs a yard to run around in unless you would be able to walk her daily. The alternative is to take her to the pound where she faces death after 6 days.

Cost to you: $0. Add dog food and you've got yourself a loyal, loving companion for the next 10-12 or so years.

If ya want to keep her Scott, I would give the dogs a few days to iron out thier differences. It's prolly just a territory dispute. But make certain to include your dog in the lovin'so it doesn't feel left out.If ya spend all the time on the new pet, the other will be GRUMPY!

Good looking dog IMO. I think bulldogs are tough looking though (unlike my "cute" chihauhau )

Good luck

Dad denied my request for a pet. Although my bro would love another animal.

Molly is absolutly adorable.
I just wanted to say that I think what you are doing is great scott, like bc says it just might be a territorial dispute. let them hang out and see what happens while you are waiting to find her a good home.
Have you placed add in paper? Found add and also a free dog add? Someone just might be looking for that special type of dog. Altho I wouldn't give her just to any person.
Isn't there an ASAPC? (sp?) in your area? they are different than humane society.

I would not advertise her in the paper as a free dog Neo. There are lots of bad people out there.
Scott, there is probably an American Staffordshire Terrier or American Bulldog Rescue Group. They will pick her up or look for a home for her while you keep her. They would also help you keep her and work with you and your dog. But be careful these dogs were many times where raised to fight other dogs.

Am Staffordshire Terrier Rescue

A list of rescue groups in NoCali that have dogs for adoption. (You can reverse engineer it )

A few more tips that you might find interesting

BTW, my mutt pooch I got last summer has turned out to be a mix of this breed. I mention this because she is just the sweetest, most friendly loving dog I've ever had. She loves the cat and they play together.

Surreal, ya you right on that score that there are alot of bad people. I had advertised in the paper because in the past I had to give up two pet dogs a long time ago. I kept turning everyone down because they did not fit what I felt would suit the dogs best interst. I made it clear upfront that I would need to visit thier home envirmonent to determine if I would let them have my dog. Took me a decent amount of time to find the right home for them. However I was determined to find them the right homes and also another requirement I had is that they must own thier own home and not be renting. It is possible to give a free dog out in the papers, just have to screen the people carefully because you the current dog owner has the say weather or not the dog goes with that person or family or not.

All depends on the person if they want to take the time to find them a right home.

Edit: Scott, btw females get spaded and males get netured.

You gotta give an iron-clad guarentee to take back...

People have been known to get doogs for practice in doog fights.

Also, in FL I heard of a place that was adopting animals for the caged-in "Guarenteed Kill" err "sportman's" clubs.

Can't believe this was reserved to FL.

Years ago da CaaT and I were driving in the Southwest an found this house for sale on top of a hill ; well, it had an airconditioned and heated Kennel that the Owner as willing to give a $10,000 "conversion" waiver on the asking price--which itself was a joke by NY or CA standards.

But I tell you we hesitated and finally tied to climb the hill in an Eldarado instead of a 4 X 4; gave up but still remember that house.

We would afford a house sitter or retired "Vet Techs" at South West prices to watch the place while we traveled as I knew we would end up taking the Pooches in instead of them killing shelters. Have a Vet visit every week. Still wonder what happened to that house.

Some breeds don't even stand a chance of adoption which truly sux as some pooches require more socializaion than others because of a higher predatory drive--but all can be socialized.

Doogs are very "social" animals.

Even me.

Cute dog, reminds me of my larger dog (former stray, geta long eoth people, but not other dogs excpet for dogs smaller than her). Unfortunately, I couldn't care for another dog and I live on the east coast. Start by talking to people you know. Like neighbors and stuff. You can find quite a nice home for Molly that way.

Also people, if you dont' feel like walking the dog too often (maybe once a week), and have a yard, you can get an invisible fence system. Works very well for a dog that size.
