Swallowing the story
A nice piece in Slate on the credulity of the press. But you have to read it right to the end... |

Very good article. It's time that the States showed us the proof. If it's such a smoking gun, show the rest of the world the information. Until such time as the U.S. administration is willing to come forward with its proof the media shouldn't report it, and the administration should shut its mouth.
The onus should be on the U.S. to prove Iraq guilty, not the other way around. This whole thing is become rather silly.

Hmmm,
Comparing a band of delusional misfits to the US government seems unproductive. I am sure we would hear lots of stories in the press about midnight killings of Iraqis resisting Saddam or how we lost special operators b/c the Iraqis figured out who was giving the US the information. Blindly following the government is not generally a good idea, but I certainly don't like losing friendlies either.

I still do not know how one would go about trying to prove they have WOMD. Basically you have a country the size of California. The rutheless dictator of the country can kill with impunity any one who even remotely looks guilty of being an informant. Now couple that with the fact that you could build weapon labs on big rigs/ mobile platforms likewise even store weapons in mobile warehouse trucks. IDK if one could ever truely guarantee that you could find such WOMD plants. Now you could even simply put the weapons in little rural communities or in a friendly neighbors country outside of the search radius of the UN arms inspectors.
I would love to see the governments proof for my own edification. But I will rely on the fact that everyone who has seen the information is convinced of the FACT that Iraq is producing and stockpiling such devices. Virtually every country friendly or not to the US conceeds that Iraq is producing such devices when presented with the facts.
I guess you and this reporter are just so much smarter than the experts from around the world who have actually seen the evidence.

Epidemic, how would people in this country like it if Canada or France or Mexico or any other country held the US to the same standards as the US has subjected the Iraqi's to?
This country probably has more WOMD than any other country. And now the present Government is "trigger-happy". Just waiting for a catastrophe to happen.
And with GBW as C-in-C, I can only say that God Bless Us All.
Edit: And don't forget Ari Flescher. Reminds me of Hitler's Minister of Propoganda Goebbels. Jeez, you gotta see this guy daily to believe his evasiveness and dodging. Puts the Clonaid's Dr. Brigitte Boisselier to shame.

Explain the universal belief that saddam is a threat to his neighbors and the world. How has the US convinced even countries who oppose us at every turn.
Remember even france believes. France the home of "cheese eating surrender monkeys".

Again, classic US arm twisting.
Not saying the dude shouldn't be taken out. But not at a cost of $17 Gzillion and 79,000 dead troops.
A single (soft nose) bullet thru the eyes, embedded in the brain tissue, will trigger tissue trauma and do the job in less time it takes to say Joe Camel.
