Just spent 3 days working on a machine.
These are the symptoms it had:
When power was turned on, all fans spun up, hard drives clicked etc. Nothing else happened, no beeps and hd led stays on.
Spend three - thats THREE days trying to sus this out, pulled all cards, drives etc. Tried new ram and gfx card, pulled mobo out and looked forany dry joints/cracks.
Just when I was about to bin it, I fired it up one more time, and for some reason tried to press the reset button. it didn't move. pulled reset wire off mobo, fired up and into OS first time.
The front of the case is bashed in from a previous (seemingly) 'unsolveable' problem, and the button got stuck, popped it out and it all runs fine.
I feel such a fool.

That's not a problem you'd normally think to look for. Don't beat yourself up too bad man. Took me a week to figure out I had left a mother board mount in my old case causing it to short out the board.

That's why it's good to start with the power on button first, then stick the rest of them on one at a time after that.

Glad ya found the stuck button before trashing it.I'd just laugh it off

LOL, now I'm installing slack 8.1 on it and for my KVM I have to tap scroll lock, and that kept halting the install! Had to go through it 3 times so far, but I've figured it out now.
Pickel, I'm only 16, so legally I can't.
This is going to be a triple boot machine, but only two of the OSes will ever be used, out of DOS 6.2, ME and Slack 8.1. (DOS and Slack, obviously!)

I've noticed that.
now I'm just trying to convince my dad to let me run another network cable to my room. (only got 2 sockets) or at least until he needs the box for something.
The switch is in the next room and no other rooms between me and it so I should be able to do that. failing that, drill a few more holes through the ceiling
