Question for peoples who knows about cars

Ok, my neighbour bought something called a 'De Icer' [not sure about spelling} for his Mercedes and also for is very old Fiat. He's on vacation so I can't ask him about. He recommends it for anyone.

So can someone explain what a 'De Icer' is and what it does?
Can I buy such a device for any kind of car? Or are there specific models for specific cars?

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm from the context of your writing, I'm guessing you're asking for what I call a scraper *shrug* lol
Anyways, around here we just go to wal mart or any department store or auto store, they're everywhere. They're generic so they can be purchased for any kind of store. My current one has a snowbrush and a scraper on it and I think this is my 3rd car I've used it with (over a span of about 8 years lol)

A "de-icer" as you're calling it is either just a scraper or a snowbrush and scraper, they vary in appearance. My connection is god awful slow or I'd find ya a picture. I take it you've never had ice or crusted snow on your windshield? They're great for getting that stuff off of it

I do use some stuff called 'De-Icer' but thats stuff that goes into my windshield washer fluid to keep it from freezing when I go up north and it also allows me to de-ice my windshield as I'm driving down the road.

As far as I know, the De Icer is in a can, and what it does is loosens the ice that formas on your car, so you don't have to chip away at the ice, and run the risk of cracking your windows and such.

I hope this helps!

Odd. It may be a heater that you connect to your cigarette lighter or power plugin on newer cars. I had one in my truck until I blew it up (my truck has been known to eat electronic equipment). If that's what it is, mine was just a little blow dryer more or less. You put it on your dash and plug it in and it blows hot air upwards and melts the ice from your windshield (in theory). It never did work very well, but mine only cost $20 and didn't have a remote.

For rear windows, there are strips of wire that produce heat when energized.

On front windows, Fords have a thin layer of a Pinkish metal that heats up in a similar manner, btw these prevent the usage of radar detectors.

Don't know bout Mercedes.
