Boycott Target stores
I recieved this in an e-mail from a very trusted friend. It arrived on Dec 26th, but I didn't get to it until today.

Why I am boycotting TARGET STORES
By Dick Forrey, Vietnam Veterans Association
We asked our local Target store to be a sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event. We received back a reply from Target management that "veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the areas of arts, social actions and education. "
My thought: if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and the veteran himself, does not meet the criteria of these areas, something is wrong at Target. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, but simply sponsorship an endorsement for a "memorial remembrance." As follow-up, I E-mailed the corporate Headquarters and their response was the same.
Personally, I will NOT be buying anything at Target Stores again. If the Vietnam Veteran does not meet their area of giving then why should I, as a Vietnam veteran, spend my hard earned money in their stores?
Please pass this on to as many people as you know. Maybe Target and other businesses will get the message.
Veterans Helping Veterans

This is the type of disregard for our servicemen and women that has been going on for fifty years. Ever since the "Bring our Boys Home" of the late forties groups have set out to gut the service of its meaning in everyday life.
If you know of anyone that is now or has served your nation, than you have some idea of what I am trying to say.
Don't let people like Target get the idea that they are right. Help fight for the service. They will fight for you...

Not so quick on the draw, eh? This is how things get out of hand. A simple misunderstanding becomes a major issue. It's this same "Us against Big Business" mentality that lawyers use to convince juries to award ludicrous sums. Quote:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
We want to apologize for any misunderstanding regarding Target's support of the Vietnam Wall and our corporate giving program. Giving back to the communities where our stores are located issomething we're proud to do. In fact, nationwide, Target Corporation gives back more than $2 million a week to the communities where we operate stores.
In March of 2002, a Howard County veteran approached one of our stores in his home state of Indiana seeking a $100 cash donation to support a display of the "moving wall." However, stores are not able to give cash contributions to any organization. Contributions from stores are limited and are made in the form of a gift card.
Our corporate giving program that does incorporate cash donations is handled through a process called grants. Unfortunately, the veteran and his organization were not provided the proper information to facilitate consideration of a grant from either the store or our corporate office. We are truly sorry for the manner in which this was handled and the resulting confusion that has taken place.
We accept all applications for grants from February 1 to July 31st. Any guest can request a grants application brochure, called "Grant Guidelines," at their local store, or access a grant application at: http://target.com/target_group/commu...delines.jhtml.
Target appreciates the dedication and service of all our veterans and has previously funded projects benefiting veterans. Target Corporation will be one of the sponsors of the 2003 tour of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund's outreach initiative, The Wall That Heals. The Wall That Heals is a traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Museum that also has a strong educational component for schools and also serves to honor all our veterans.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Hanson
Group Team Leader

While I would have been disappointed by Target's response.... I also would have understood. All corporations are "hit up" continuously for support and sponsorship for many different purposes and reasons- all of which are probably very valuable and deserving. Unfortunately, since so many are hit up for so many different things, the respective boards/ceo's outline charities/organizations that they will support. How they choose or filter what things they will consider, I dont know... but whatever their procedures and protocols, they are necessary- Unfortunately.
I am sure their denial was not a statement about their feelings toward Vietnam or Vets... it was just an unfortunate necessity.
Again, I would have been ticked or disappointed too... but would also have understood their position and not taken it personally.
EDIT: Oops... Sure, the first post in a LONG time that I respond to in community turns out to be a Hoax , figures.

I`m not sure I trust a Group Team leader with a question such as this. Was it not Target who had some Shady dealings with money they "SAID" was donated and only to find out it was not going where the public was told or the total amount was not given.I`m not jumping so fast to believe your post. I called a Target store and they would not give me an aswer maybe we need to find a nutral party to check this out. Target for one is so Anti-American it`s not funny,...ever been to a target in Texas and complained becuz the girl at check out did not speak a word of english and she over charged you? Believe me it`s not fun,..or maybe people should check out planetfeedback.com and look up Target,...it`s a consumer website,if you have a problem with a company you can take it up there or if you like a company you can also let them know,...all I`m saying is this,..don`t be so fast to believe a company that stands to lose ton`s of money if this is found to be true,...we need to have this checked out and if they do help Vetrans what date did they start? Funny if it started in April of 03 hu?
