The guy on the other end told me to hang on a sec. I heard him whappity-tappiting on a keyboard, and he came back a minute later with a new set of cabinet dimensions and a formula for two 4" ports instead. Problem solved

They may still have the cabinet specs available if you call them. Or, alternatively, tell them what the enclosure should be tuned to (low end in Hz) and how big (in cubic feet, internal size) you want it to be, and they can whip you up the dimensions and porting. Or, they used to. Probably still will.
The model number should be on the back of the magnet. Don't try to ask them for an "earthquake" low frequency tuning if it's a guitar speaker or something

I wonder if my dad still has that cabinet building book. I don't remember if it was from JBL, or just a general reference book. Unfortunately, he didn't use Baltic Birch and I can't lift one myself (and I'm the guy that carries the Carvin 2x15 cabinets around at 90lbs each). I'd put mine in the 130 - 140lb range. Not kidding.
The Carvin 2x12 is open back, from what it says on the web site. I know the 4x12 are not and they have a fair amount of grunt when kept on the floor. In the air they tend to lose their low end. The cabinets are somewhat light and I would suspect that has something to do with it.
I think if I were you, TT, I would pick up a pair of Eminence 12" or something similar and toss a cabinet together yourself. Or even a pair of Carvin 12" speakers. I have no idea who is king in the guitar speaker industry anymore. Roommate's homemade 4x12 has all Carvin 60W speakers and sounds good.
BC, what's the model number of your JBLs?

I don't know whir, I still haven't pulled the backs off the cabs they're in.Being lazy I guess
What about Celestion speakers TT, they used to be the thing. Marshall, crate, and Fender used them a lot. I think you can even buy them through Carvin, or used to be able to.I need to order a catalog I guess

What I have is the Kasino speakers in this pic I found on the net. There is 2 15" speakers in each, and they have a little plastic badge in the bottom left corner that says !JBL. So they are prolly JBL as it looks like they've never been touched.
They sound good as far as rattles, and such. No noise, and I have cranked on these things for over a year.I would just like to build a cabinet that will make the best use of the speakers/horns.
These cabinets are fugly
So what can I do with this?

How many watts are the cabinets rated at? Are they bi-ampable? Probably not being old, but hey...
