What do you think?

I have been taught all my life, and still believe that it is wrong for a christian to do certain things. Now I know that every religion has it's own set of beliefs, and so on.I just wanna know what you think about somethings.

Is it OK to drink if your a christian? I mean "any" alcohol.Wine included. And yes I know in Timothy it says to take a drink of wine to sooth the stomache. But does that still hold true today.Concidering the potency of the wine today.

Cussing is wrong, but what about slang.

Is it wrong to listen to Heavy Metal, and not gospel/gospel rock. You can only get out what you put in ya know.

I know there are many more, so add to the list if ya want.

So what do you think? Where do you draw the line?

I don't think in terms of Christian this, or so-and-so says it's wrong to do this, but correct to do that....I know what's right and wrong, I haven't needed anybody to tell me how to do it for many, many years.

It's hard to hold yourself to the religious standard, but an important battle nonetheless. It's good to have a moral compass around, just to keep your bearings straight.

Some of the worst Christian sects have been those which take the joy out of living, IMO. And many of those preach a different sermon to what Jesus did about how we should behave.

What did Jesus say about behaviour? Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, soul and mind. And love your neighbour as yourself. And also, Those who even think about sinning sin just as much (a paraphrase).

What I'm getting at is that it's not so much rules anymore. The Israelites couldn't follow rules, so there is no reason to think we can. It's now more about why we do something.

The apostle Paul put it nicely when he wrote, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me...but not all things are profitable. Why do you want to drink wine? As a refreshment? Fine. To get drunk? Not so fine. Eat meat sacrificed to idols? Only if it doesn't hurt your brother, if he has a problem with that.

You see what I'm getting at, BC? Jesus liberated us from the bondage of sin, and the slavery of keeping all those Commandments. But in doing so, he provided us with the Holy Spirit to help us understand what God's will is for us. In other words, how to behave.

We need help with behaving. I know I do, at any rate.

Cheers
Mick

I do what the voices tell me to. I've always assumed they were angels...

Mick, yes I see what you're getting at.Maybe I'm just too strict in my beliefs, not sure. But it works for me I used to be a drunk, and one drink could send me over the edge again,so maybe that's the difference.
I know Jesus set us free from the bondage of sin,but I feel we still have a set of guidelines to follow, and I try to stay within them as much as possible.
And yes I need much help, a lot of times

Whir, you have to be careful about those voices
