If they really do perform acts on chickens that are unnecessarily painful, then I would have to agree. BUT, I doubt very seriously that they are doing this. PETA goes way overboard, often to be trusted without hard proof of mal-treatment.
We had several bomb threats called in on our lab because of the way we killed rats, which was the most ethical way we could kill them and get results. (Anesthetics changes hormone levels, which we were studying.) We also had some death threats by them, which both to me are totally hypocritical since they are trying to kill, scare and harm humans.

Right or wrong, my guess is they are very serious.
This organization, through its own actions, has made it hard for me to be sympathetic to any of their causes any more.

You know you'rw dealing with propaganda when they resort to imagery like this, and send it far and wide:
Isn't this what they mean by libel? |

To be completely honest, as long as the food coming to me is disease free, relatively inexpensive, and doesn't taste bad, I don't give a rat's arse what happens to the stupid chickens. I'd really rather not know if they are being kept in cramped conditions or experience incredible pain just before death. And I wouldn't want to have to pay the extra buck to have the piece of mind to know that some chicken (or any other animal) had a better life because of the extra money i'm paying. Keep in mind that they're being raised solely for food, and not even for their eggs, just their flesh.
And even if it weren't the case, animals don't have rights. Check the Constitution, it's not there. We just afford them "rights" so that some of us can sleep easier at night. Now, I'm not saying "kick the next dog you see in the head," but at some point people have to realize that animals do not command the same type of "humane" treatment that people receive.
