I would invest in a manual, it's the easiest and best way IMO. Also if the grinding has been going on a longtime, prolly gonna have to surface the rotors, which is a good idea regaurdless. You can get most manuals on CD-ROM too BTW VEry cool
Good luck

Invest in the service manual---may help you in figuring out the special "tire tool"...
The whining sound may have been the factory "squealer" letting you know its time for pads---(since it was neglected for months, you may need to add the cost of some rotors to your brakefix---OUCH!)...

Junkyard item if possible for a 4 y.o. car...
(from a wreck)
Have a pro attempt a re-surface while yer at it, you may be OK just dont slap the new pads in there without havin the rotors checked out completely...

PLEASE do NOT let price guide you when it comes to brake repairs!!!
Cut-rate crud is just that - CRUD. Buy ONLY from a high-quality supplier. Either a dealer or a major supplier which carries name-brand parts.
Do what like about keeping it running, but don't cut a corner about keeping it stopping!!
Remember, if it dies, it stops. But it fails to stop YOU die!
