IT graduate-to-be in despair

Hey everyone. I am going to be graduating in the fall of this year from U-Mass Lowell with a degree in Information Technology.

Today, just for kicks, I was looking on Monster.com at available IT jobs in Massachusetts and NH. It seems like there is NOTHING out there that requires less than about 5-7 years experience in the field!!!! How do you IT people get started? I'm really discouraged at this point - this is the 3rd degree change for me (it went like this - Journalism, Bio-Technology, IT) and at this point I just want to get the hell outa school and into the "real world"

Problem is, it doesnt seem like the "real world" is too friendly for young, unexperienced techies like me What should I do?

Somebody tell me a success story - PLEASE!!!!!! This is really depressing me!

Learn to say, "You want fries with that?"

Wait! JUST KIDDING! Just kidding...

You may have a location problem there, in that the area where you live is chock full of IT guys, so employers get to make demands like that.

I have a friend who just got an IT position, as far as I know, without experience. He DID say he had been very lucky to get it, but still...

I'll ask him about it and get back to you. Chin up!

I would venture to say, as far away as possible from Universities that are churning out guys with IT degrees...

Funny thing is, that would definately NOT be my university... they added the IT program as an afterthought... its only offered at night!

You'd think that they'd want to put it during the day. I'm not complaining though cause it allows me to work during the day.

I'd look into using your Journalism or Bio-Tech background to get you in the door somewhere. IT guys in Pharmaceuticals/Bio-tech make great money.
