Dave,
Interesting, but flawed thinking on Baldwin's part (again). The terrorists struck our civilization and our capitalism. We should rebuild constructing the epicenter of commerce bigger than before. BTW, a great book for anyone wanting understand wy we were attacked is Samuel Huntington's Clash of Civilizations. It is truly a must read for all.

This debate is going to go on for a looooooooong time.
I think we should ask DooooG and Shahani what they think should be done. After all, they live there. They have their paw / finger on the pulse of New York. Yes, I am serious.
What do you think, DoooG? Shahani? Anyone else from New York City?

It's not going to be a stadium. There isn't enough room.
I went down several times after the attack. When I first went down, it was...
There aren't words for it.
Whatever goes there probably won't be the right choice, but rather a choice based on going on with life and making money.
They really need to keep the cross, though.

From what little I hear, people's emotions and sentiments are very high. Particularly those families who lost near and dear relatives. They want some sort of memorial to mark the spot.
I think that makes sense. Like the Wall in DC.
This place is not too big but probably the most expensive real estate in the world. Having some commercial/office buildings/infrastructure will not only utilize this valuable property but provide an impetus for economic development in NYC which has suffered a lot.
In my opinion, they should have a Memorial at the center of the plot and surround it with buildings/towers even more grandoise than the WTC.
This will send a message to these terrorist peeps that what they accomplished was actually against their own people, their people suffered more in the aftermath and all this is contrary to whatever perverted cause they fight for.

Club,
Would you like to back that up with some facts? For a book published in 1996, he has been fairly dead on with how the world developed in the past 7 years. I did not seen anything about inciting wars or him being confused.

I honestly just found his (Alec's) ideas ridiculous and they almost make light of the situation.
As for the book, read the reviews...mixed and intersting: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...607734-2274237 |
