Voting Age to 16?
Well, what do you think (specifically USA, but international opinion and facts welcome as well).
Should the voting age be lowered to 16?
I think: DEFINATELY. I was working, paying taxes, and government fees at age 16. So why can the government have a hand in my pocket, yet I am not allowed to have a voice in their ear? (I'm not 16 anymore, but I still believe this).
And I think the voters that young who are willing to vote would make an excellent voice to be heard. We are, afterall, taking their money, so we should listen to what they have to say.

Only trouble is that at 16, teens are very easily influenced, and most don't care about politics. That can change, but just all the sudden giving these rights can be problematic.
Should teens be eased into politics it would be nice. We need more involvment in our political system. Much more.

I agree I'm not sure most 16 year olds are mature enough to vote and actually vote for a person for a reason. I mean I sure as hell don't want somebody voted into the presidency because they had the cooler name I'm positive there are indeed some 16 year olds that are mature enough to make a intelliegent decision.. but the facts are you're not an 'adult' yet. Some people work at 15 detasseling corn or working Co-Op in HS.. should we let them vote too?
If I buy stuff at age 10, I'm paying taxes on every purchase.. its still taxes regardless.
I don't think when you start paying taxes denotes when you're adult enough to make those decisions.

Well since about 15 I was interested in politics and what was going on in the world. Although even now I see kids that are shunned because they care about what's going on.
I personally think that it should stay 18. Besides..I am almost there! |

I'm 16 and I say there are too many of kids my age that don't know crap about politics or don't care. I love politics. I read political books, watch debates etc. I wish I could vote, that would be sweet but for example, my friends don't care about politics. Whenever I talk to them about Bush, they are completly clueless on some very important issues.
I say if you can pass a "political test" at 16, then yes you can vote.

No, no... Let the voting age remain at 18. And then when those 16 year olds have the capability to vote, they'll wreak sweet, sweet unmerciful revenge on those who were ignorant enough to tell them that they were "too young and immature" only two years yearlier. :-)
I would say No, but the fact that they have to give a portion of their paycheck to the government is the deciding factor for me. Paying sales tax (as mentioned above) is irrelevant... That's done universally.
