I've got a dear friend who wants?

I know the subject was a teaser, but my old buddy wants to go to school to get certified from A to Z! It's going to cost him $6,000! What bothers me most is the fact that he's an old fart like me! He's 52 years old and, in my opinion, the horses have fled the barn! I really think this a young person's game to get into! It's too late for us old geezers to get into!

Why? Why is it too late? I saw an article in a local paper, of a lady who finally got her degree, and she was 86 years old. If he is really interested, why not?

Yeah you're right. You should just pack it up. You'd never be able to compete against those young people that are so smart and experienced in all of life's little nuisances. Besides how would you ever pass the final exam…you'd probably have to take a nap midway through it.

Have you got your burial plot picked out yet?

I'm sorry if I mislead anyone here! I meant he wants to get into computers, programing, networking, etc. I really think this is a young person's game! I really, really, hope I'm wrong on this!!!

Nah, it ain't that much of an young persons only game!

What counts is his brain and his passion, IMO. Companies look for those who will help them get to where they want to be. Just look at all the old folk in the boardroom!

...but he does have to realise he will be competing with a younger crowd, and so needs to set himself accordingly. He will need to look for companies that have a track record of employing older folk who know their beans.

Just because he's older than Bill Gates does NOT mean there is no future in technology for him.

I think he needs to consider his options carefully, but I'd encourage him just the same if he does his homework and has seen what the market has to offer.

Good luck to him!!

Cheers
Mick

Hey money is funny in a way, you can't take it with ya, even if he just goes to school for the sake of learning then consider it an entertainment fund. I personally enjoy computers, and learned on my own. There is nothing wrong with doing what you want, (except for 80 year old women buy porshes and the like and drive 2MPH in the FAST LANE just cuz the speedometer says 150+)

You only live once and not learning some things that you wanted to learn can weigh heavy on a person.

old farts

im an old fart and self taught computer tech. my first computer was a timex sinclair with a 32k ram expansion. it all comes down to doing what ya like to do. Ill never get rich doing tech work because i live in a small town and do mostly repairs for friends but it still is a lot of fun to help. another bonus is the granny crowd. I have about 8 old ladies who can never afford real techs. I fix their machines for the cost of parts only and even use my own spares if i have them. Ive gotten loads of fresh baked pies and home made bread and jam and all kinds of neat *profanity deleted* that is lots better than money, not to mention the good karma wish him luck and support the old geezer all ya can

Old Fart huh ?

Chew on this;

I can throw a baseball 67mph
Squeeze 250# with my hands
Outrun most 14 yr olds
Ring the bell at Fair's 3 times [mallet & gong type]
Snow Ski approaching 100 mph
Jet Ski for 8 hrs straight
Do a jump kick over 5' high

Young guys, never underestimate the agility or strength or mental capacity of us "Old Farts"

OK

''
All True, but humor intended..

Tell the old fart to go for it..

Later
Doc
