I think I might join that "Clony" religion?
How's this for stirring the pot! As an Agnostic all my life, I've been searching for something to believe in. So why not the Realiens? What's wrong in believing in immortality? I guess there's 55,000 believers already worldwide. What I don't really understand is, where does a cult become a legitimate religion anyway?! I'll do a google and find out what these people are all about and maybe I'll come back as a full fledged member? Watch out people, I may try to convert you!

The problem is how do we define religions? What makes something a religion and something else a cult or sect? Everyone will have a different answer because this is all based on how we personally see things, and what our beliefs are if any.
I am very sceptical of these cults, sects and pseudo-religions because they are man made. IMO religion is not made, it is Gods words sent to us by messengers and so IMO once again there are only 3 religions on this earth, yes I know it is a little mean and arrogant to claim this, but I am trying to answer the question from my point of view. Others will differ naturally.
You have posed a question that is very old, and so far no one on this earth has been able to answer it satisfactorily because there is no definite answer, religion is something personal and hence the answer will be personal too, it will be tailored to each persons beliefs no matter what they are, so, if you discuss this issue with 5 people you will have 5 different answers.
Tough topic.

from a scholar point of view (meaning I took one whole religion class) we were taught that a *religion* has I think 7 aspects that are in all religions. Whereas a cult does not fulfill all the "Requirements". There are definately IMO more religions than 3 as their are the hinduists, shintoists, buddhists etc.. but as CM said. that's an opinion
I think the clonists are more of a cult but then again I haven't bothered to wast...errr spend any time reading up on them
Just my opinion

cult vs. religion
outline of a ranking ...
low ([singular]-cult) - you adhere to your own standards and loose money on them
.... (various shades)
high (religion) - you have managed that the German government collects taxes for you
