Citizens Against Celebrity Pundits
Sick of Hollywood sticking its nose in where it doesn't belong? Angry at Hanoi Jane? Wish the Baldwins had lived up to their "threat" of moving out of the country if Bush won?
Sign the Citizens Against Celebrity Pundits petition. http://www.ipetitions.com/campaigns/hollywoodceleb/

Dave,
You're trying to stir the pot and I admire your efforts, I really do. Knot's going to be brushing shoulders with these Hollywood people soon, so we can only take his thoughts about these people with a grain of salt! Right or wrong, all these people have a right to voice their opinions. That's the way it works. If you never liked the actor in a given movie, why go with his/her political views in real life? Who would be so incredibly stupid to vote for what their favorite actor believed in? Duh? If you were that dumb and that shallow in your thinking, and that impatient as to finding out the facts, then why bother???

Okay, seriously, no sarcasm this time: What are you guys saying?
Do you fear a small group of celebs shooting their mouths off?
As though the American People are so dumb as to adopt whatever Jane Fonda or Ed Asner or Woody Harrelson have to say as Gospel? As though we are so stupid that we have to rely on some overpriveledged, overpaid movie star for political guidance? Honestly....
As though this country is so weak that dissident (read: liberal)voices have to be squelched? Last time I looked, our First Amendment was going nice and strong, mostly..... |

Freedom of Speech is a wonderful right. It is the freedom from government oppression to say whatever we like. There are limits though that society puts on this right. We speak out about NAMBLA's right to say what they like. We also speak out to stop the words of the KKK and the Black Panthers. While these extremes are mere examples of how we as a society censor the despicable, we also censor people who are less extreme. For instance, we caused Trent Lott to resign from his leadership role and many could argue that we as a people are keeping him from speaking freely. I say that we are acting justly in these actions and as long as government does not step in and force its hand, our rights are being preserved. The same must be done to those we find reprehensible. We must censor them by turning a deaf ear to them. This is not denying them their rights, we are merely exercising our own rights as a choice. We choose not to listen. In signing this petition, we do not limit anyone's rights, nor does it ask that anyone be silenced by force. It is simply a list of people who are saying they will not listen to the typically morally corrupt Hollywood scene when it comes to matters of government. It is saying that they need not step out of their Hollywood lives to try and affect ours with their overwhelmingly socialist ideals. I must admit that there are some that I agree with like some of Charlton Heston's ideas and some of Arnold's and most of Reagan's. And honestly, I would not sign this petition if they were mostly conservative (Libertarian or Republican) in thought. But to see them use their celebrity in what I consider a bad way, I will turn a deaf ear and only recognize them with contempt. This is my choice and I invite everyone to make their own decisions.
I am not afraid of what celebrities say nor do I want the government to take away their right of free speech, but the people can speak out and let them know that we aren't listening and that is the purpose of this link.

| Yep, sometimes...
Kinda like when Danny Glover came to Texas to protest the execution of a murderer who car-jacked two older people, then shot the husband in the head execution style, then beat and shot the wife, who fortunately played dead and lived to tell the police who did it.
Mr Glover said "he needed a second chance to make it right" or some other B.S
The murderer had his chance when he was doing the crime, and he didn't take it. Now he's worm food.

Speaking for myself... I pay absolutely no attention to what celebs or either the left or right say, unless it's directly related to their expertise. (Christopher Reeve has a good reason to talk about stem-cell research, as a potential beneficiary.) I may agree with Warren Beatty's politics more than I do with Mel Gibson's but neither makes more of an impression on me than does Joe Shlabotnik.

I say, let em speak. More times than not, they just end up showing their ignorance anyway. Take Barbara Streisand for example, it would be in her best interest to just keep her mouth closed, yet she continues to blather about things she doesn't have a clue about. I would like to believe that others don't idolize these "people" to the point that they believe everything that comes out of their mouths. And if some people do, I would like to think that it is a small minority and not the majority. There is nothing wrong with them using their celebrity status to get there views out in the public, but it's up to us to decide if we agree with what they say. When it all comes down to it, we all have a brain and are capable of forming our own opinions. Let's just hope people don't forget that.

I do not FEAR them. I just personally feel that some people tend to lend more wieght to what they say just because they are popular.
For example. I were to get up at a enviromental meeting and say something about how cattle were killing the bunny rabbits cause they were eating all the grass. and one of the "Celebs" got up and said otherwise more people would tend to believe the celeb.
and guess what....I'd probably bet a 100 bucks to 1 that I know more about conservation and the impact of cattle grazing than any celeb.......Why you ask? Cause I live the life of a cattle rancher! but unless people know me and knew that they wouldnt give any weight to what I have to say.
