How many of our TechIMO members in the service?

Just wondering. How many people here are serving in the military? Does anyone know?

Gary

Sergeant Martoch reporting for duty!

I've been in the USAF for just under 8 years now. There are a handful of TechIMOers in the service.

EDIT for job title: I'm a Digital Switch Tech, aka Telephone guy. I do both the inside programming and the outside wiring to include electronic key systems.

I also build, install the SW for, and maintain 30+ computers for our shop.

Hey Dave! I haven't been around much either...great new avvy (my word for avatar of course) bud!

Not too many. I'd say 20 or so, from what I have seen. Maybe more, since I don't get around as often as I used to.

2Lt Leaumont reporting for duty. I am a navigator trainee and will be assigned to my aircraft on Jan 24th. (Keeping fingers crossed for a B-52...)

Well, I'm so proud of all you sevice people, I could just do a cartwheel; probably break every bone in my body! Anyway, way back when I was in, all we had to look forward to was a letter or a fruitcake from grandma, ugh! You know the kind, it weighed in something like a brick, and was just as solid! Anyway, God bless all you guys and I hope more of us weigh in here on this thread to give their thoughts on the subject.

Not in the service anymore. I served from 86 to 90. My time was up just before they put a freeze on discharges. My unit ended up going to the Gulf war about 2 months after I got out. Although I was still able to be called back, they never did.

I spent one very, very cold Christmas Eve in an APC overlooking the Czech border. Of course all the Czechs had enough sense to stay in where it was warm. I remember that night like it was yesterday; lots of snow on the ground, crystal clear sky, bright moon, and temps way below zero. Getting back to the warm border camp barracks was the best present we could have.

My hat is off to all those serving now. I was lucky enough to have served between Vietnam and the Gulf War. I missed both, thank God. Probably why I enjoyed the military life so much.

Same here M_Six - - Army 80-88. Holidays were special though - I've never made the kinds of friends I made in the service - that bond you have because of the things you go through together. About 5 of us still keep in touch after all these years.

I spent last Christmas at a base in Kuwait about 50 miles from Iraq's border...thanks the the tragic events of 9/11. Talk about too close for comfort.

I think it's called Male bonding!

There's not a guy alive who wouldn't tell you that the best years of their lives weren't spent in the military! This even encompasses those of us who fought the good fight in the trenches! There was a kinship that will never, ever, be duplicated in civilian life! I wish I could explain it better for our female members here, or for our younger members who never had to deal with the draft. It's the kind of feeling you have, no matter how old the veteran is, you are one and the same! We all paid the pipper, so to speak, and we all care for each other! That's how it goes.
