Why would anyone want flash?

Ok, I got slammed for asking the question elsewhere on Techimo so can anyone help me here?

Please tell me why any ANY server would want to use FLASH on their site? I, for one, hate the program, and when I go to a site that uses Flash player I go elsewhere(usually after I ask/tell the admin about it).

RANT-

What is the problem with these people? What is wrong with posting the information without wasting my bandwidth?

/RANT

Flash player, are you talking about the one where you need to download the flash componet to be able to view flash webpages?

many companies are using flash intros and flash enabled menus for thier websites. It makes thier website seem more sophisticated and well designed. Anyone who has been to a flash driven website knows that it is not easy to design that, It takes alot of time to design a site with such awesome results.

Just MO.

Flash sites bottom line to me means:
1. Sophistcation.
2. Well thought out. (Meaning a whole hell of a lot of planning)
3. Time
4. Classy Look

That just a few.

I don't know why you got "slammed" for asking that question. I haven't seen the thread you are referring to. Maybe it was the way you wrote your words. Hard to say without seeing the thread.

I wouldn't worry about it to much if i was you. Enjoy christmas and don't fret.

How does Flash waste bandwidth?

Because of it's use of vector graphics it's by far the most efficient way to display graphic rich web sites.

And if you then ask why are these sites trying to be "graphic rich"? The answer is very simple, the author of the site wishes it that way...period.

I do think there are a number of sites built with Flash that really would be better off just being good 'ol html. But so what?, it's not that big of a deal.

Flash most definitely fills a niche and is very useful in many web site applications. If anything it's saves an enormous amount of bandwidth. Do you understand the difference between raster and vector graphics? Flash's use of vector saves untold amounts of bandwidth.

Plus, it ain't going anywhere anytime soon. You might wanna just get use to it.

Usually, website will give you a choice of using flash or not. At least some sites do.

Sometimers tho, the author won't go to HTML because the website is designed entirely for flash.

With broadband, you barely notice the diffrence. I'm assuming you have a modem though. Tough luck

Flash has so many things to offer for the user. Especially drag and drop type stuff. I love the when people use the Random function properly. If a flash site is designed properly then it can be a truely awesome expericance for the user. On the other hand you have people who have crappy designs that just kill me. Full Screen sucks. If I want your site to be full screenn then I'll do it. Dont program it that way. Always have a skip splash flash screen. I hate when I have to wait for a movie to end to enter a site. In fact I never wait I just close the page. Flash can do soooo much if done properly, even on 56k.

edit: spelling.

As well as what the others said, Flash also offers the ability to do things that static or dynamic html can't. Suck it up, Flash is here to stay.

I guess most people think its just fine, but I disagree.

When I go to a site to download a driver, all I want is to download a driver(or an update, or a map). I dont want to have to watch a 30 second blurb about the newest products(I've already bought). How do you guys get out of watching the movie/blurb? Pressing esc doesnt stop it!

Do you guys actually sit through the blurb each time?

no1_vern got slammed by me. I was having problems with flash and other non IE browsers and all he had to say was that he didn't like flash and ignored websites that had it. That annoyed me and it showed in my post. Luckily other members actually did try to help me and my problem was solved.

I don't think no1_verns reasons for not liking Flash are realistic.

1. You only have to download the player once.
2. 99% of sites allow you to skip their intros.
3. 70% of sites have both flash and html versions for viewers.
4. If flash is killing your bandwidth then you should contact your ISP and let them know that they messed something up.

I love flash because of these guys: www.2advanced.com that's all I'm going to say to this
