Rant on Pet Owners

[rant]
Yesterday a pretty little 14 year old girl was attacked by two mastiffs x Rotweillers. This poor girl was hurt really bad.
The dogs will be put down soon and I agree with that, at this point it’s probably to late for the dogs to be trained properly. But, here's my rant.

They should put down the owner to!

He is the idiot who trained these dogs as attack dogs (guard dogs)! He is the Moron who didn’t sufficiently secure the animals so they couldn’t get out! I understand that some of these dogs are violent by nature but that does not mean that they can't be trained to be kind and gentle animals. My best friend has the same dog and he's the sweetest little thing. A lot of my other friends have pure bread bulldogs and Rotweillers (also known to be vicious) and they are great dogs to. Look at these two dogs, here, they are beautiful animals, and I hate seeing beautiful animals suffer for irresponsible pet owners.

I know what you mean. My neighbor across the street has a pitbull and lets the dog in the garage with the door open. One time a little kid was walking his dog on a leash and whammo the pit jumped the dog. Luckily, no damage. The girl down the street was on her bike and the dog ran out and bit her on the leg. I had my dog (on a leash) IN MY GARAGE and the pit charged across the street and had my dog by the throat in less than 5 seconds. Luckily again, no damage. Told the neighbor the dog will be used as batting practice if it ever comes on my property again. What I don't understand is their aparent lack of awareness of the potential risk of death or maiming, not to mention the freaking lawsuit they're risking!

yeah, i love animals(dogs) and NO dog (unless it is some freak DNA mutant from mars) will be vicious around people if treated properly and trained to not be mean. agreed, some people need guard/attack dogs but they sure as heck better keep em' under control. they should license people to have dogs if the dog is of a breed that is potentially dangerous like rotweiler, pitbull, german sheppard, doberman, etc. i have a german shepard and he is the nivcest dog you will ever meet. we never even had to teach him to be nice, he is just naturally nice. the proposed liscense would not be hard to aquire, it would just define whether or not the dog is intended for guard/attack purposes or not and if so, then some form of law enforcement should make an inspection every year or so.

That's a good Idea cracked.

That's just the thing, if you treat and train your dogs right, they won't be vicious animals. If your dog is a guard dog then why the heck are you leaving them un-chained and leaving the gates open so they can get out. It makes me very mad!

I agree, it's the owner's fault. Dogs grow into what they're shown they should be.

The owner of a dog trained to be vicious (who hurts a child, or anybody else) should be tried as though he were the one who did the damage, IMO.

Well I agree with everyone here. I think the guard dog liences is reasonable.
I feel horrible for the girl tho. She will suffer for a long time to come and at that age they are already concious of their looks with the way today's society is. I hope that she has the strenth and the courage to see beyound all the outside and see that she is a good person inside and show the world that. I am disheartened to see that she will miss christmas by being in the hospital and also glad the doctors have the sense enough to state that she can have a "day off" to be with her family.
May God be with that girl and give her the strength and courage she needs.

Agree.

Bill in SD, here in Ga when a dog comes on our property to attack our animals or a human, the next sound is like that of a stick of Dyanmite..
30/06 bullets stop the varmits first time, every time.

On the Farm, I cannot count the dogs I "Had" to shoot as they attacked our cows.

One white German Shephard was chasing a calf one day, as he walked away through the back yard, I shot below him with a 30/30.
It was Feb and the ground was mushy from being frozen then thawed.
The bullet sprayed the dog with mud, then the dog charged ME, stupid dog. One more bullet had him standing straight up with a 2' long stream of blood erupting from the wound. No Bark, no nothing, he fell like a tree.
The warning was unheeded.

Let me guess, in Ca it's illegal to protect your property and life from agressive animals ?

I had to build a $1500 picket fence in my front yard to keep dogs from chasing my cats.
There are one or two buried in the back that attacked them before the fence was put up.

A guy who didn't take care of his 11 dogs came under fire for letting them kill some dwarf goats.
Me and 2 other guys shot all 11 of them. We should have been allowed to horse-whip the owner. Poor dogs were beyond bringing back from the "wild'
Once a dog begins to like the taste of blood, there is no hope, he must be killed.

I agree, I don't like it, but I agree.
My only beef is that the owner should be punished as well.

That's exactly it! They trained the animal to be this way, they should suffer the consequences.

I agree with guard dog licensing, I have known people who have rotties, boxers and pits, none of them ever have a problem. One of the pits did come after me, but we can't figure out why, I was very sick at the time and that may have had something to do with it, or possibly they never have people over 5'8" around the property, but the dog stopped the second the owner said (luckily before anything bad happened (I had a 20oz Estwing in hand), tho it might not have done any good.

The 2 rotties, If they knew you or thier owner was around were the nicest dogs in the world, If you approached the owners children when he wasn't around, (as a salesman found out) The dogs would gang up on you and pin you to the ground, but never used teeth, and try moving 2 dogs over 100lbs that are laying on you. poor salesman just asked his kid if Mommy or Daddy was home. Very good dogs tho. Boxers, I'ld never own one, way too agressive even while playing.

My view is that if dogs are trained to attack then if they attack then the owner should be responsible as if it were assault with a deadly weapon.

I myself have 3 dogs, 1 a shepherd mix will be on the case, he wont bite anyone mind you but he does tend to scare the cr@p outta most anyone.
