actually the two people i went to see the movie with and i have come to the conclusion that they are actually trying to make an indefinite series like james bond with the LOTR movies. i.e. they get to mordor, throw the ring in the fires, but as it turns out they accidentally threw it into "west" mordor, instead of "east" mordor, so they have to travel to the other mordor...in the next movie. and so on and so forth. then when they finally get to the right mordor some aliens from the future transport them to a far away planet, where they have to get back to earth...in the next movie. and then they get back to earth but an earthquake leveled mordor and so they have to travel through the center of the earth...starting at the other side of the world...in the next movie. and so on and so forth
personally i haven't read the books, so i can't compare it to the book. but i personally enjoyed the movie a lot. one of my friends had read the book though (just finished it hours before the movie started) and he informed me of a lot of the differences. some i don't mind, but some i could have done with out (TWO love stories!?!).
one thing i definitely have to quote on is gollum. this is the first time there has been a completely CG character in a live action film that i fully accepted as a real character. i was thoroughly impressed there. i liked the first one better, i thought it seemed a little more polished i guess in terms of storytelling, but i still really liked this movie.
