10/40 forms

Have a friend who needs a copy of his 10/40 from last year, for school loans. Been looking on IRS.gov but can't find anything. Anyone got any ideas on where he could get a copy?

I thought town or city halll keeps copies but not sure.

thanks
Mike

Here they are. What was the problem -- erroneous form name?

Since they're sent directly to the IRS, the town and city hall won't have a copy unless they have to file local taxes and include the federal 1040 form. Stupid question maybe, but didn't they keep copies of their forms? I thought you were required to.

Theo, I think he's looking for the forms his friend filed, not blanks. I have tax software from last year that I could print a blank from.

Oh, wait. Was he wanting a copy of his actual 2001 return? He can get that from IRS, too, but I doubt he can get it via the Internet, or everybody and his uncle would be going over Jack Welch's return.

If he needs last year's forms, anyone who has a copy of last year's TurboTax Deluxe can generate them for him; I'm pretty sure they're all there as .pdf files.

I'm pretty sure I haven't thrown my CD out yet; never can tell when you need those pesky things. Let me know.

Boy, you guys post fast.

I know it sounds stupid .. but I decided to take my geekiness to a whole new level.
I basically take every form, bill and invoice I ever get and scan them as .pdf files and keep them on my HD and CD's. That way should I ever need something I have it right at my fingertips.

You guys aren't going to believe this but I was an IRS agent for several years, duh! Don't hold this against me, ok. Anyway, all your buddy needs to do is go into the nearest IRS office and they can bring up his particulars. He can also send away for a copy but it'll cost money. As far as getting blank 1040's from years past, I've gone to google and simply typed in "1999 1040" and got a Acrobat download pdf. It ain't any simpler than that!
