I need help finding a cancer forum!
My oldest and dearest friend has lung cancer. He has non-small cell, stage IIIB inoperable cancer. I brought him to the Chicago VA Hines hospital in July of 2001 thinking he had simply contracted pneumonia after he was caught out in a rainstorm while golfing two weeks before. He had pneumonia, allright, but he also had the cancer! It's been a nightmare ever since, taking him to VA for the radiation and chemo, etc. Anyway, things worked out ok after all the treatments and he was in remission. Now he spent another 10 days in VA during Thanksgiving with fluid in his lungs and, after testing, they found cancer cells in the fluid. He started another round of chemo yesterday and I don't think he's going to make it.
What I'm asking of anyone here on this forum, of all you good, internet savvy members, can you help me find a good lung cancer forum where I can get some answers?? Incredibly, his wife and kids are in total denial, to the max!! There are oxygen tanks, medication bottles, etc, all over the house and they are oblivious to it all! And, believe me, it hurts him deeply that they aren't there for him. Anyway, I'm thanking you all in advance if you can help me out here.
Gary

Fagin,
Thanks much for the effort! I too tried google and all I'm getting are medical websites where I'm not seeing "real" people discussing their cancer related problems, etc. There's got to be some floating around in the either. Thanks again fagin, I appreciate it greatly! |

Thanks Pain,
I followed your link and it took me to many different sites and I ended up talking with some people who have very little hope! I also found some other sites which require me to have on-line chatting!! I've ben there and I've done that with MS messenger years ago and I didn't like it at all! I guess I'll have to play by their rules. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
P.S. The overriding feeling I got from viewing all these sites is that there are a great many cancer patients who view themselves as "leapers"!!! It's as though their friends and loved ones treat them totally differently now. What a double whammy this must be!

I "had" a support group within Yahoo for 4 years (since handed off to a Dr) and it was GREAT---the ability to chat was one of the best things---where can you be around more people with a similar illness nation/worldwide and speak to on a 1 to 1 basis?
We used to have dozens of people show up for our weekly chat sessions and it worked real well, may be worth looking at alittle closer since most people were pretty serious about the reason they were there and the support from similar folks was overwhelming at times, the message boards within the groups also offer a wealth of support plus you could start your own group if you choose...

You're right on the money. It's just so emotionally difficult to deal with!! I just don't really know if I have the balls to deal with it any longer. His wife and kids are in total denial and he doesn't really care anymore! Where do I go from here? I'm sorry I even brought this up to the forum.

I know where you are coming from party as I have been in remission for several months after all the times of chemo & radiation due to type II lung cancer, but wasn't as bad as your friends. I'm sorry to hear this and I hope your friend can pull though this. I also had to help a close friend with pancreatic cancer whom I and also her young children miss very much so today.
You might want to check out Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion, Illinois they do have a chat at the bottom of the page and they are one of the best cancer treatment centers it the world. I hope for the best and your friend has my thoughts and prayers and help him remain as positive as one can be in these bad times and don't give up and don't let him give up and I know it is easy to do as I felt at times like giving up myself.

MDS,
Pain found a website of cancer people and all they're worried about is how people think of them!, Duh!!! They're treating themselves as Lepers, and I can't abide by that. Am I wrong on this? All I got from their posts were their worry about other healthy people "blaming them for smoking!", get real, I say. Get on with trying to save your life and others who are on the forum. To hell with anyone who deters you from that goal!!! It's as simple as that. I'll have to check the forum again for I'm sure I stirred the pot, so to speak! And rightfully so! Good luck to you!
