It's not just liberals who want Lott's hide.

According to this story in today's New York Times (FRYYY), black Republicans are outraged as well.

I think several white republicans (the one's that are bright enough to figure out what he meant and brave enough to speak up about it) are outraged as well. If this keeps simmering until Jan 6 Lott will be ousted from his position by his peers.

I think Mr Lott will have the decency to resign way before January 6. People holding such high office have to be very careful what they say or do.

Look what the media did to Bill Clinton: His entire questioning was televised by CNN - the most humiliating experience for an incumbent President barring none.

Except Richard Nixon.

NYT, another impartial source.

The only Black Republican I've actually heard was J.C. Watts, and he said he's gotten over it.

However, the controversy has taken on a life of its own (like so many stories fueled by liberal media feeding frenzies). So I'm guessing Lott will step down as SML.

Mr Lott was quoted on Black Entertainment TV as saying "...I've made a terrible mistake..."

The National Review Ed. Board is calling for his resignation (as SML):

Of course, they think Lott's too "moderate".

Mr Lott had the sense to step down as predicted.

It is better for the party and better for the Senate that he has stepped down. Although the allegations are false, it is a black mark on the Senate to have its leader with questions of racism hanging in the air. I also think another reason why a lot of republicans jumped on the bandwagon was because of Lott's weak leadership. He's caved to a lot of democrat opposition over the years without putting up so much as a fight. Whenever Daschle would get on the screen bashing this or that about republican agendas, Lott rarely found a reporter and defended his stances. And his refusal to allow a lot of testimony of Clinton's impeachment trial made it look like a sham. Even though he was guilty, I don't think there would have been a conviction. But at least it wouldn't have appeared to be simply a partisan ploy. Lott was finally coming around too, and was beginning to stand up to the moderates trying to flex their muscle. It's really a big disappointment.

I hope Frist gets the position, and I also hope that weenie Lincoln Chafee doesn't get bribed by the dems like Jeffords did with a committee chairmanship or ranking member status. Daschle was an illegitimate majority leader, and he's going out the door too. I think a change to good conservative leadership might actually be refreshing step for the GOP.

In politics there are no morals and no permanent relationships. Everyone looks out for their own self-interest.

Period.

Not being cynical but that's how I see it. GWB wanted him removed solely because he thought it may hurt his bid for re-election as well as getting thru some of his agenda in the next two years.

Anyway, the predictable happened.

Now, just watch the libs work on getting Lott out of the senate entirely. I'm guessing the NYT will fire the first salvo (if someone else hasn't already done it first).
