I am hoping the Dems will go with Kerry or Clinton. Their base will love them, but the rest of the country will come out in droves to vote against either.

I was hoping that Gore would run. That would ensure another 4 for Bush. I think the country has wised up about what happened under his watch as VP. It was pretty sickening.

Hey, Sharpton is running. Maybe they could get that Rep from Georgia to run that wrote the letter to the Saudi Prince who's money was rejected by Mayor Gulianni after he made a bunch of off color remarks in a speech in NYC after 9.11. She asked him to give the money to her and her district. She wouldn't reject it no matter what he said about the US being to blame for 9.11.

Find a better candidate? Unfortunately, the Democrats couldn't find their tuchis with both hands.

You know, I can't help but wonder what it would be like to spend an afternoon with Al Gore, or GWB, or Bill Clinton, or any of these guys. I bet it would be revealing.

I'll bet you that when the line of questioning gets to, "Just how much power do you HAVE as President? I mean, how much of a dent do you actually MAKE on the economy, and whether or not we go to war?"

The answer would be, "Eh, not all that much. The office of the President is largely a popularity contest. The trick is, don't get caught being an idiot/scumbag/hypocrite!"

Oh, and, "But don't quote me on that!" hehehe

The President's Executive powers are immense. Particularly if he wants to veto.

But, as in any democracy, the President rarely acts alone. There is always a consensus between the Executive and the Legislative even though finally it seems as though the President acted alone.

In a Federal form of Government as in the US, the President has far more real authority than, say, in parliamentary forms of Government like Australia/India/England.....

People like Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson are always on the lookout for the publicity value of any stand they take.
